what is the world powered by?
DELL!!!!!?
-
Btw, Im also considering getting a P4 (AMD has always been the obvious choice for me, since I consider Intel's pricing to be fucking insane), but is there really all that much difference between the best AMD out today, and the best Intel?
Anyway, Ive always been happy with AMD, but Im just wondering what you guys think

-
Personally i've always gone Intel, mainly because i can get them cheap through a friend. I will agree Intel's prices are high. If i had to work off a tighter budget i would more then likely go with AMD.
TAKE THE RED PILL!~~~

9600xt .... shutup im poor.9600xt is a pretty good value card...i think you can get the 256 mb version for under $175 now. i think you'll be ok for most of the next gen engine based games like hl2/d3/stalker/bf2
you know, it would be great if there was a universal guide to what how each card fairs with each new game engine, especially for those on a budget who want something good but can't drop 5 bills on a 6800 or X800.

new benchmarks released by hardocp/nvidia were released today and its showing that the 6800 "regular" beat out the optimized x800 xt-pe (the suffix's are getting retarded) by about 20%. I would take the results with a grain of salt though considering you're getting your facts from the company that is being paid by nvidia to promote it. then again...many people all along have been saying the 6800 will be and is the card that will win back nvidia the lead in the enthusiasts eyes (much like when the 9700 stole the lead from nvidia when it was against the geforce 4 ti4600).
personally, i wouldnt base my purchase on this because theres really no way you could refute the results, since the game isnt public. i dont think hardocp would put their reputation on the line by releasing false results either though....so its kind of up in the air

no matter what decision you make, im sure both cards will far surpass your expectations as far as performance is concerned....but it might be another case of 9700 pro vs ti 4600 in the long run :\
(edit: if its an overall review of pretty much every graphics card you've ever heard of then toms hardware has answered your prayers - http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphi ... index.html - .....of course the latest and greatest arent listed here, but its a crazily great reference for everything from pretty much the last 4 years)
-
dunno if someone already posted this but they just released a bunch of doom3 benchmarks http://www2.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjQy
-
Wow very interesting, thanks for the post Zaphod, i've made a more solid decision now hehe. I'd say go for either i'm sure you should be able to get the performance or close to it, out of either card for the most part.
-
but i said....he said....you said what i......SON OF A BITCH STOLE MY THUNDER
-
Hmmm, that is interesting, giving me doubt! CURSE THEM!
But still, this is just one game, there have been cases where other ATI cards have preformed crappy on some stuff, and way beyond nvidias stuff in other shits.
But still, the Ultra does look like it has the upper hand in this one, and its DirectX 9.0c ready :G
/me goes into thinking mode
CURSED!!!

Yes, review sites are soo messy when your just trying to find the best card in your price range.

its funny that ATIs cards have such a hard time on AA, where as the Nvidia cards handle AA alot better. Ive always been under the impression that ATI handled FSAA alot better than Nvidia, but appparently not :G~
-
hmmm AA kind of pointless inless you have a hudge arse monitor or run at 800*600 you just don't notice normaly D!:
-
In general I dont really care about AA, but with this computer Im getting then Ill start using it. But for the most part then I think AA is way too overrated, although it obviously make games look a bit better and smooth.
But anyway, in 1024x768 without AA the X800 XT handles it pretty good, and its probably something like that im gonna play in (mebbe 1280x1024). Anyway, deciding on what card to buy just based on one game is bullshit, although It is quite easy to decide on what to get.
Hmmmmm
-
so whats the final verdict?!?!?!?!?!
i was thinking maybe NV coz of the dual thing that coming out soon would'nt be so much of a blow to the old wallet should i be mad enough todo such a thing
-
Gonna get a X800 XT
And btw (this is kinda annoying actually since Im buying an Alienware thats all build n finished mhh), I can get 40% off on all ATI cards. Guess somebody in IO has some good contacts in ATI
. But Im gonna get a X800 XT for my dad so its not all loss. -
40% holy crap D=~ ..... you remember that night mazy and you told me if i ever needed something just ask well..... ;D~
-
/me flipflops mac inside out
-
wats a good NV card that does'nt want shit loads of power... sort of the top and one that might equal the 9800xt or something as im not very rich and not sure how much they will be
i followed in mazzels feet and ask work =)
