Congrats John and Thiago (again)
-
Sweet! Good job Minos!

-
Just heard that the visa came through ! I still need to set up an interview at the consulate in Paris for them to stamp my passport, but other than that, I'm now good to join Irrational ! Bring on Bioshock Infinite !
Who's next in line for a visa in the Core?
-
-
i want a visa too

-
Isn't there some gameshow where you can win one? Isn't that how things work over there

Oh and cool Furyo, even if it wasn't instantaneous then it sure was faster than what guys like Mino had to go through :G
-
The green card lottery isn't a show and it's not for visas;)
The reason I got mine faster is it's a H1-b and not an o-1 like Thiago, Philip or Bram. The o-1 has no quota but requires a huge application that proves you're among the very best in the world (awards, interviews, recommendation letters). It also doesn't require a degree, making it the only option for people who didn't study past high school.
The h1-b only requires that you show you have the required skills and a degree, but it's difficult to get because of the yearly quota of 65k a year for the whole USA. And those go very fast
-
So much for "Give me your tired, your poor, huddled masses yearning to breathe free"

-
Does the quota go up again each time they kick out an illegal Mexican working at a shady pizza place?
Good to hear man! So when are you leaving?

-
Lol, illegal workers don't have visas, that's why they're illegal

The quota is reset every April 1st. So what happens is you generally have until around May 15th each year to submit an application to have an H1-b visa, before all 65K have been allocated already. So what companies do is they stockpile these visas ahead of their hiring, then after the hiring is done, they drop your name and application along with the "reserved" visa they managed to get earlier that year.
If they don't use them, they're lost, and if they didn't manage to secure one before all 65K have been allocated (and as I said above, not given to candidates, just allocated to companies) then they're out of luck and have to wait until the following year.
As for me, it looks like I'll start there on January 9th, depending on when I can get the consulate in Paris to stamp my passport.

So it's look like I will stay more time at Ubisoft :derp: (instead of the 4 months I should stay at first)

Congratz dude
-
Hey grat'z Neiji !

-
It’s my last work day tomorrow. I’ve applied for a few places but I think I want a break from the industry for a bit... Is it still "going indie" if your contract just ends? Doesn't sound like I'm raging against the corporate machine.
-
can you give portfolio and resume?
