Rather than crowd up the other thread I thought I'd make a new one.
I've just got done with it now, again the following contains spoilers:
First of all whoever said it takes 6 hours to complete is a dumbass, it's taken me about 18 hours to get through! The game was is a bit dull at the start after you've been picked up from the Roadhouse, but it got better and is really fun later on and while the new gameplay features are just clever gimics, they work very well with the narrative. I especially liked it when you had to hit a switch to lower a lift get on top of it and use spirit walk to cross over a chasm and produce a new portal to teleport back to the switch, simple but cool.
I found it a bit lame how if you used spirit walk sometimes, panels in the wall appeared so you could get to supplies, it would of looked better as a hole in the wall with some of that blue stuff around it. The weapons were good, it didn't bother me that there were only 7 weapons because they were all interesting enough as they were and you never really missed any others (well maybe a rocket launcher
). Enemies were ok, I especially liked some of the later floating things and the guys that looked a bit like the fat zombies from Doom 3, I liked to whack the mutated humans and run away a lot, they're always confused when you do that ![]()
The bosses were pretty damn good, I loved the first boss fight, the way you cut his arm off and got the gun was nice and inovative, the other ones such as 'JenX' were good too, it took me ages to figure out that I had to destroy those purple things though! Speaking of bosses, I liked the way they produced this character of 'The Keeper' and then later on you find out that even though you destroyed him, there was more than one and you would never have seen it coming. Vehicles were nothing special, but it was always fun to fly about shooting robots.
All in all excellent game with a pretty satisfying ending after all the carnage for once (although I don't understand why the bar appeared in the sphere about a quarter of the way into the game and then it's back untouched... eh?). It's not going to win any prizes for originality and it certainly doesn't redefine shooters but it was damn good while it lasted.
I give it a solid 8, about the same as Quake 4.
PS: Right at the end, there's 'Prey will continue', perhaps we'll see a mission pack? ...or maybe a sequel...
PPS: Needed more ghost children imho too!
