Zidane completely lost it there. What a sad way to end a pretty damn special career.

Hardly. It was actually about what, 10 minutes to go? France outplayed Italy the entire second half and pretty much all the Overtime periods. They were pretty much robbed on PKs.

Here is some Materazzi, the GREAT   Itally Player

Wow, you're clearly pretty biased Mojo. Surely you aren't trying to say Zidane didn't deserve to get sent off? I was sorry he ended up his career the way he did, but he deserved a red, no matter what it was that Materazzi said to him. Sure Materazzi also held him back a bit prior to the incident, but if you are trying to make out like that doesn't happen ALL THE TIME in football, then clearly you don't watch it very much.

As for France being "robbed" - it wasn't like it was any sort of domination by them through the match, it was really pretty close all the way through. Neither team would have been "robbed" by penalties whoever had won.

Yes, what he did was inexcusable, I agree (I am just very frustrated with it). It was definately a very physical match, and yes that sort of pushing and shoving happens all the time, but Materazzi must have said some pretty awful things to make Zidane do that since he knows its his last game and it had to be something rather vile to make him go so far out of line.

Maybe the penelties would have been different. Its all in the past now, nothing that can be done about it. You can analyze it all you want. Italy won. France Lost.

    It-Tal-Ia!

    Vive La France!

I guess I am rather sick of the diving and acting. Its a shame its become part of the sport, but I am not sure I am for the talk of having 2 refs on teh field, it just seems like breaking of tradition. Yet if it results in better calls (damn you instant replays), I would like to see it and what the games are like.

Yeah it really would be very interesting to find out just what it was Materazzi said - as you say, it really must have been really pretty nasty to incite such a reaction under the circumstances. Like you I'm fed up with all the blatant diving that goes on, though personally I don't think Italy are really all that bad. I don't think I saw even one occasion in the final that I'd have called as a dive, though my attention was somewhat distracted at times so maybe I just missed them.

pheeeew, I'm so glad France lost! The match was pretty interesting, had it's funny moments (zidane's headbutt ftw!!) and the penalty shootouts were awesome!

France never deserved to win imho. In fact it was more due to luck than any actuall skills that they made it to the finals.

Anyways, great ending for a great tourney. See you in 2010!

You don't appreciate the genius of Zidanne. All those great players before him who bowed out gracefully in their final game with a wve to the crowd, we never see those clips of them leaving. This thing is going to be played forever. He just went viral on the internet. A footballer for the internet generation! Plus, if you're going to leave the game, you might as well get in one last fuck you.

And Italy deserved to make it that far?

Really depressing game imo, first half was pretty good, second was just a mess. Didn't really care who won though :G

I was rooting for France, a shame that Zidane freaked out like this, way to fuck up the end of your carreer. I think Materazzi pinched Zidane's nipple (I'm serious), but it was obviously something else said that made him headbutt the dude.

Anyway, congrats Italy, it was a nice world cup, thank you for being our guests and see you in South Africa 2010
