    http://www.trackmanianations.com/indexUk.php

free download, make your own track and race for the top times against other people on the net. The track editor is simple yet pretty flexible once you grasp all the pieces you have available and how they fit together. It's a pretty good racer to boot, the car physics are more than adequate and the gfx are quite nice if you have a high end nvidia card.

here are the couple of tracks I have stayed up late making the last two nights

Hello Zaphod, nice to see you here!

Anyway, I played that game while ago, vehicle physics seems to be a bit dodgy but yeah, looks like fun game.

I don't have time to make tracks tho. :/

    Looks crazy, and fun.

This is reminds me of stunts. But it looks somewhat better =). Anyone else here who used to build stunts tracks all day in your younger years?

This has been the lunchtime activity for our team's designers for the last few weeks, though I'm sorely behind (I keep letting checking my WoW auctions distract me )

Will have to check these out

Hey Zaphod, we thought you were dead

Yeah trackmania looks pretty cool, it reminds me of good ol' stunts, which is an awesome thing. Will check this out for sure.

mojo tells me it's the same at gbx.

the vehicle physics seem great to me, but I haven't ever been into gran tourismo or any real racing sim so I don't really have a frame of reference. I don't think realistic physics would work on these kinds of tracks anyway though.

there seems to be two kinds of tracks that people make, insane stunt tracks that are more like a puzzle to figure out how to get through, and real racing tracks where you are fighting to get the best time.

Ken made this crazy track the other day where you start off ridiculously high in the air and hit a leap right off the bat, then have to spin around midair to take a vertical track chunk straight down... hard to describe, but it was pretty impressive. Love the crazy shit like that.

    5 megs!? thats insane

my folder must have been pretty enourmous too. Remember that speedbug that made your car go insanely fast, and just like that it takes of high as hell up in the sky =). hilarious.

I don't have a picture yet, will add one later.

This is more of a puzzle track at first, but once figured out it can become a real race to see who can get the best time. My best time is 1:08, though I did it in solo mode and not in the track editor, so it isn't the author time. \

It will test your ability to control your car in the air and over gaps.

I thought I was the only one! Stunts FTW.

[edit]Why would you put copy protection on a free game? Boycott StarForce.

Any PSP owners played Gripshift? It's a similar game, complete with track creation tools, and is really cool if you can get used to the car physics. It's very floaty, and the cars turn a bit wierd, but I love it. The game really encourages you to devise shortcuts and explore, which sets it apart from pretty much every other driving game. It actually describes itself as a puzzle/platform/driving game, which pretty much nails it to be honest. It's one of those hugely underplayed PSP games that is ACTUALLY unique and not some cheap port or lazy spin off. I wish companies would make more like this, but I think it sold horribly so what are the chances?

I've never played trackmania in any form, though was tempted to pick up sunrise, so might give this a shot some time. I used to play an old PC game at a mates hosue called "4D Driving" (I think anyway) that looked extremely similar, but this was something we launched from DOS, so obviously it wasn't quite to this standard

Bad trick by the publisher to infect many gamer pc's with that crap?

For the guy who installs the game it is not noticable that this driver is installed too and it remains deep in the system even after uninstalling the game. What i have heard about Starforce is that it can destroy drives physicaly and cause serious performance problems on many games. It is loaded independant from the game every time you start your windows.
