Colaberation sounds like a very good idea, mainly on a small and limited level though, community projects usually turn out horrid or fail with in a month or so.....how bout contests? pick a theme; set a deadline; mabey even get some prizes, and then realease like the top 5 or so in a map pack. An old community I was in used to have things like these and they were great fun: watching peoples' maps change and evolve, and a lil` competiton does not hurt, only inspires.

The point of this is not to get paid or prizes, its to get known, have fun, and get some proffesional practice.

Well then.. We should start seeing who's interested so we can move onto getting people into teams and organizing this. As soon as we have that done we can all decide on a theme and set the time limit...

I say teams are not assigned, rather people find their own partners.

Interlopers does this, with no real prize except notoriety and a little forum avatar. Good fun there.

If done correctly teams can work, but it's usually rare. We could make it an optional thing to do, you can be in a team but you don't have to.

What if a person prefers to do everything themselves? Could they just put I'm the mapper/modeler/texture artist?

This is an exciting project, least it is thinking about it.

stop trying to turn a mappack into a contest. having losers discourages people from participating. if all the entries are included in the pack there will still be good and bad maps, except everyone gets to be in the pack. i can understand the team thing, but again, all the renound mappers will get quality modelers/texture artists to help them out while the newer/unknown mappers are stuck by themselves. this should be a straight up make a map with x theme and submit it, all the serious entries will be zipped up and sent to the world

i do note that lots of the good modelers will go to those who have good mapping skillz , but i think if we all think of things ina realistic situation and split up into groups and things it will go alot smoother

perhaps bic if you wanted to you could start a small list so people could put down if they are willing to work as a modeler , mapper , or texture artist . and then you or someone else that knows everyone by there work and such can put them into groups so that they can work together on comming up with an idea and a map together.

My mapping abilities are middling, I know nothing about source at the moment though, still tied to the HL engine. I can model mechanical stuff decently enough. I have almost zero ability to texture stuff though. I'd love to team up with a couple of guys and spend time each evening working together on something and coming up with ideas. It'd make a nice change to the way I've worked before and expose me to new ideas and techniques, which is always a good thing.

    Thats what I want to

Putting people together with people they dont know will also be binding for the community so people dont end up in different cliques... This way we can get to know eachother better

Well, shall we create a topic for those interested in forming groupd with the intent of submitting something to the pack so that we can find partners, or are we going to have someone assigning us into groups based on our skills and preferences?

Well... If everybody who where interested signed up first, and then someone assigned people on the list into groups. That would be the best i think..
