Alcohol tends to make me more tired, so I've gotta be careful how much I drink a lot of the time. I have no desire to start smoking weed again, I'm past that stage of my life.

Alcohol makes you passive, I noticed that few years back, during summer, just got out of school so me and my friends kicked back loads of beer every day, and after like a month or so, I noticed that I didn't have inpiration to draw, make models or photographs, and when I forced myself to do it the stuff sucked ass.

After we dropped the alchohol thing, I was back in the game.

"Chew some valerian root and get more exercise."

On the topic of sleep in general you can do a few things to get the most out of your night--lately I've been waking up before my alarm but if that weren't the case I'd try this one:

Also if you want to try a natural sleep aid I suggest melatonin, you can get sublingual tablets at any health food store. It's a hormone that your body produces to help regulate your sleep cycle; part of the system that cues you to go to sleep. It is a subtle effect but I've found it very useful, it just helps you fall into natural sleep. Dosage will vary depending on the person--my wife only needs about half a milligram but I'll usually take 1.5-3 mg. Men usually need more than women.

You can use it to help adjust your circadian rhythms, then after awhile if you keep a regular schedule you shouldn't need it much anymore.

Remember that insomnia is all about your mind. Finding out what is wrong about your life will work better than taking some medicine (even if its natural)
