sweet, I need to look up more soviet stuff cause I love their style. What ever happened to that HL1 mod that had US and Soviet military and some sweet models? That looked pretty swank.

I'm working on unwrapping and hoping to do one that doesn' thave any mirroring. I'd normaly do a planar map on the side of this but I dont want the obvious mirror on the center nose cone and other places so I'm going to try to do a cylinder. Should be finished unwrapping it by the end of the night.

gonna start texturing it now and i'll get you a proper render after that.

[16] r1nger: u can make all those small things bigger tho with the topright space~

[16] von`ferret[uvw]: yeah but than they have more detail than others and it'll look wierd

The smoothinggroups dont look good and you have wasted a lot of space on that mesh. I would risk a seam left and right of the front (direct behind the cockpit) if i was you. Would give you the whole 1024 pixels for the sides. I know you are a good skinner. you can manage the seams.

With a higher pixel resolution of the sides you can also make the other stuff larger without looking weird and use a lot of the yet unused pixel of the mesh.

edit: i suggest also to make the cockpit glass on a extra texture. making a alphachannel for the whole 1024x1024 texture would be a waste of ressources imo.

this is halfway done with the texture, still working on the smoothing groups. I have to say that maya has the worst way of doing smoothing groups I have ever seen, PLEASE I want my 1-32 numbers back. There is glass but I have it light on the alpha channel so I can work on the insides atm. Bump and specular not created yet.

looks great. just to point somthing out, you said it was landed, and usually the rotter blades bend when its landed.

Oooh lookin' good ferret! Strikes a balance between realistic and fictional in my eyes. Made me think of the new FFVII game "Dirge of Cerberus" for some reason - I think there was some helicopter screenshot I saw that had a similar design. Very professional looking anyways, good job
