Pfft who cares, it was nothing compared to Be Cool , filled with ads, AND it sucked complete balls.

At least The Island was visually appealing, sounded great.. and Scarlett was hot as hell...

Anyone see 24 at all this year? Seems like Ford and Lexus were the cars of choice.

"He's driving a 2005 Blue Lexus GS300 with standard leather and smooth handling north on highway 5."

Okay maybe they didn't go that far on 24, but sometimes my friends will joke about that. In reality, the car product placement on 24 wasn't ever that bad cause it wasn't obvious and the characters didn't react to the products in unrealistic ways. The island was clearly more out there.

Still, best product placement was Wayne's World.

Yeah, I have to say, I don't usually mind product placement - especially in TV shows where advertisers have to find new ways in now people just TIVO out the ads... but having said that, the Puma and Xbox did annoy me.

I feel for you if you let simple things like that get to you^^

You remeber at the start of every 24 season, the 15 minute long Ford commercial, then all through the season its all Ford commercials? Maybe thats why

Well, I robot was the ultimate in product placement, every other word was some company name. It made me sick, and then healthy and then sick again. Besides, the movie sucked ass, so that makes it even worse.

    "Vintage 2004."

Sweet lord I wanted to kill myself then and there. At least I managed to still semi-enjoy that one.

The Island had the worst product placement evah.

I mean they did a good job advertising the products like Puma, MSN and X-Box but it really bothered me... My friend suggested the big R in the skyscraper would have been a Rockstar Games advertisement but I highly doubt it

True. But I spefically remember the Lexus placements this past season.

I kind of wish Keifer Sutherland would go on SNL or something and do a series of exaggerated automobile product placements in a mock 24 skit where he plays Jack...would be so funny.

I liked it for what it was. I could care less about the product placement. It wasn't like they'd pause, turn to the camera, and say "Drink Coke!". Shoot, I probably missed half the adverts. It wasn't the best movie or anything, but it entertained me and that's all that mattered.

Are you shitting me? They started out scenes focused on company logos. How much more blatant does it have to be?

Maybe I wasn't paying much attention or whatever but I didn't find it annoying. Besides, a few ads here and there doesn't ruin the movie for me like it does for some people. I actually found the Xbox ad kind funny and interesting.

The only ones that really stood out for me was the Xbox and MSN Search. Both seemed really out of place and very blatant, like the makers of the movie never even attempted to bring up the brands in a reasonably realistic way.

gotta remember that "product placements" or whatever you call it, actually (in a weird way) also adds to realism...What city wouldnt have giant posters with commercial in it?

I agree but they should have used fictional products instead of shoving microsoft shit down your throat.

And no, I haven't seen it yet. Will download the DVDrip as soon as it's out

I saw Happy Gilmore last night, and apart from some shoes or something the major thing was Subway... the thing is, it 'sorta' fit into the story.

Plus when it first came out I didn't know what the heck Subway was... it's only become big in the UK over the last couple of years or so, and even then I only found out recently it wasn't some crappy unhealthy fastfood joint like McDonald's but did indeed serve fresh... I think what tipped it was a programme (maybe the docuFilm 'Supersize Me') where I realised the guy in the Subway ads used to be some famous fat guy in American Television who lost a lot of weight.

Well, in the future wouldnt you think that advertising is going to be 10 times more prevalent than it is today?

Not really. I think it would be less random, you'd see only adds of products you need. It would be a win-win situation for all

I don't see how using fictional products would make a movie any better.

One of the only reasons why people bitch about product placement in movies is because they actually look for them. When I watch a movie and I see some guy walking past a coca cola sign thats pinned to a grocery store then what the heck is the problem.

But I agree, stupidly placed advertising can be annoying. But even then, there could be worse. I really dont care much about it and it doesnt distract me from watching a movie at all.

    indeed.

it's all in the execution. done right, it works. done wrong, it annoys audiences and takes away from the overall experience.

it will take time for marketing people, studio execs and producers/directors to get it right. it has been done well in the past. I think the Back to the Future movies were good examples of product placement. (nike and pepsi and pizza hut, for example). it also worked well in the Matrix (those cool nokia cell phones...too bad they weren't for sale in the US).

i think the concern i had with The Island was that it was done in such a modern cheesey way that it sorta detracted from the movie. but it wasn't terrible, i just found it a bit concerning.

Well, I don't particularly 'look' for them... but I did find The Island's seemed to pop out.

I don't care about it if it's done in context... I think it's more obvious in sci-fi than a rom-com for example. Or when they get a whole camera shot to themselves. They destroy the suspension of disbelief.
