start - control panel - switch to category view - performance and maintenence - administrative tools - services - scroll down to messenger service - properties - stop and set the startup type to disabled

Any computer without the messenger service disabled will enjoy such spam.

Messenger (not MSN messenger) is a service that automatically runs in Windows and is used for various networking admin things. Spammers have found a way to make it pop up on your computer and spam you with an advertisment, usually disguised as an error/warning message like the few you posted.

So, go to Adminitravie Tools -> Services, find it in the services list, and set it to Disabled. Problem solved. The Messenger service isn't anything bad in and of itself, it can just be trigger remotely by spammers.

I wish people (D3) would use Google before making threads like though, though. 99% of times somebody else has experienced the problem, and websites/forums already exist addressing it. This is no exception; simply search for "messenger service" on Google and the second website which comes up explains what this is and how to disable it.

Im actually glad d3 made this thread, because i would have panicked so hard if it happened to me, that i would make a thread myself

Funny, when I panic about a computer issue I go straight for Google where I'm generally guaranteed a specific answer to my problem within seconds, rather than making a thread on a forum and waiting for somebody to turn up with the correct answer themselves.
