Looks like BOHEMIA INTERACTIVE will be soon releasing and showcasing their newly built in-house game engine, Enfusion, to be replacing their old and trusted Real Virtuality engine that has so far powered most of the Arma titles.

Despite its age, the RV engine, especially in ArmA 3 shines really well when it comes to massive realistic open world locations, and it seems this new engine will be taking this realism even further. They promise it will be more streamlined and user friendly for creators and developers. The new Enfusion engine will be powering all future Bohemia's games. ArmA 4 is gonna be huge :)

Seeing some of the screenshots and features, and I sure would like to give it a spin once it is released

It's a bold move to make your own engine these days. That said if you are making an engine specifically tailored to a specific set of games and you have the talent you can really do something special.

    Those shots look great already!

Hopefully entities can move around with higher precision than 1 meter

Looks cool tho and respect for building your own tech in 2021.

ArmA 3 was pretty smooth if you ask me, the latest build of the RV engine was slick; however I can totally agree with you on the jankiness and sluggishness of Arma2, especially when driving. Always felt like dragging a chunk of jello across slimy mud.

Techland practically did the same for Dying Light 2 with the new in-house C-Engine. The devs were pulling towards adopting UE4 but management insisted on in-house engine to replace the aging Chrome engine of Dying Light 1.

Better control, faster iterations, faster implementation of custom solutions, better translation of your vision, better customized pipeline/flow, autonomy, keeping source code/trade secret, etc are some of the reasons to go in-house IF you have the talent and money as you said.

Will this new engine be only for the company's new titles, or can the old ones be integrated?

So far, the official press release is only stating that this is for new bohemia titles going forward.

But I'm pretty sure that once the engine is released publicly, modders will immediately backport previous arma titles :D

    Hell yes

I think they already started working on it but they won't reveal anything until the engine is public; just my speculation

I would imagine they're using Arma 4 as the game to build the engine around.

My pc wasn't really powerful enough to play Arma 1 online, so I stuck to the single player stuff and mission editor, like I did with Operation Flashpoint, but I played the shit out of Arma 2. I had to leave Arma 3 untouched unfortunately as my pc was once again too shit tby the time it came out.

I'll be ready for Arma 4 and judging by those shots it's going to look damn good.
