I feel bad for the people on our forums that work there. You try to do your best, act professionally and then it all goes down the drain because some individuals can't not shit where they eat. Same thing happened with Ubisoft when it made the headlines last year. It's good that people are talking about it. I just hope there's gonna be an improvement.

Blizzard be like “oh we’re the bad guys? ok, we’ll move out of California. Bye!”

Reading their response it looks like leaving the state in the next couple of years is a guarantee.

In all seriousness - are there quotas in some states regarding such things as gender?

"According to a now-archived article by Dexerto (via Eurogamer), Blizzard planned to announce a new deathmatch map Malevento in a surprise PTR update yesterday. Described as one of the most vibrant maps in the game, the small Italian town would harbour a secret Talon base, and was set to arrive in the game proper on August 17."

Also how the fuck do these state attorneys not know how to spell “Bill Cosby”? They call him Crosby twice, just to make it clear they don’t proofread what they’re filing.

Isn’t he like one of the most famous living Americans, one of the most notorious sexual harassment litigants in recent history, and you work in that field? Ever heard of google/spell check?

Doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence moving forward, the victims can’t catch a damn break

I assume you’re joking but it’s not quotas. There are laws that say you can’t discriminate on hiring, which is how you end up with a company looks like the Interplay ad you posted when more than half of the population are women. Furthermore, attorneys advising them over the course of decades that when you employ hundreds or thousands of people that it looks bad when the C Suite and employment data says the entire company is comprised of men except secretaries and servers in the food court.

When they do finally hire a woman to management, oops, she has the easiest harassment lawsuit of all time, because take a look at the company, it’s legitimately a fucking shit show and no one is potty trained

I am shocked - so, as a result, they have had to fire one man on a board?

Surely that must be perceived as being sexist? Being fired because of your gender?

"Sorry, we have to let you go"

"Why? - My god, what happened? What did I do wrong? How did my 35 years at this company from the stockroom, working my way all the way up the long ladder, all the time working extra hard, 50, 60, 70 hours a week, not being able to see my children for weeks at a time, just to help the company grow and grow to become one of the largest companies in California; necessitate losing my job?"

"You're not losing your job - we are firing you"

"Okay, so you are firing me - what did I do wrong? WHY?"

"Oh, it's because you are a man!"

"I'm suing you for sacking me because of my gender!"

"You can't sue us for being sexist - it's the LAW"

First of all this is corporate boards and not "average workers" we are talking about. Having a more diverse leadership structure could perhaps have helped in remedying some of the negative experiences being reported throughout this industry.

Secondly it doesn't sound like anyone's getting "fired" and replaced. From the article: " In large part, companies appear to be complying with the law either by filling an empty seat with a woman or by adding a seat and giving it to a woman."

I'm not a huge fan of quotas like this in general, but I recognize that it can be necessary, maybe only temporarily, to grow a more healthy and balanced culture.

I believe this is a legal maneuver to not get sued when making frivolous references like that, but I could be mistaken.

Most likely ruled unconstitutional if it gets in front of the conservative-majority Supreme Court.

However, as spa mentioned these are boards, not typical workers, and furthermore if you wanted to conform with this literally all you would have to do is add a person to your board who also happened to be a woman. Not some kind of onerous burden, by any stretch. You can tell that there is no “quota” system because still only like 30% of the company is even women.

In California the relationship between the company and the state seems very frayed at this point, but it could also just be a big production signifying nothing, and they will just settle this case in a year or two for some X millions of dollars, and it all repeats again.

Hah yeah something like that. Its pretty weaselly tactics but hey, getting sued in the US for petty stuff like that is no joke.

Like others said, must be something that applies to new hires, I read something last year about they were trying to get the same sort of law in regards of ethnicity, not sure if it went through or not… I don’t live in the US.

It was asked if there were quota laws and so I looked it up, cos I was expecting there were at least in California. Top or bottom of the food chain, the point is that some legislation exists. I wasn't passing judgment.

My bad, I should have more clearly directed my comments, it wasn't meant as a critique of the link itself, but rather to some of the conclusions drawn by @Mitch Mitchell

edit: Ive edited my original post to quote the correct post.

It’s a shitty, evasive answer to her question using humor to deflect, but it’s easy to fall into that when you’re trying to deflect attention away from a person asking a question which implicitly includes a potentially tough criticism of your game. Unfortunately for those chucklefucks, they ain’t comedians, and it wasn’t effective.

I’ve definitely used humor to try to deflect when I’m a similar setting of someone asking you an awkward or unpleasant question and it genuinely does come across better to take five seconds to actually think about how you’re going to answer. People will laugh and act like they didn’t see the evasion, but they do.

Also, in retrospect, not a great look that the guy named in the law suit as Mr. Bill Cosby is giving her a weird stare
