The character models bug me. They look like they are from Call of Duty.

The game looks straight out of 2007.

But hey, the gameplay actually looks like it might be fun.

I personally still prefer to read games journalism than watch/listen. I've come across very few streamers who aren't annoying a/f. Most of them seem completely unwilling to actually script their content in advance or edit down their resulting jibberish before uploading. It's also easier to read discreetly during work hours.

I just look at the steam rating nowadays, it hardly ever gets it wrong.

Ye everybody saying that long form is the new standard and what people want… but if is all you offer then people don’t really have a choice.

What do you read these days? Every game mag or journo is on a wokeness path that obfuscates the content you really interested in.

To decide what I’ll buy/play I’ve been basing my judgment on gameplay extracts most of all for the last 15 years. I know nowadays they fudge these presentations more and more, but I haven’t been really disappointed since the original Prey. And I have so much back catalog that I only buy during sales, so there isn’t much to complain even if I at some point stumble on a bad title.

So we go from a single Alien is the world's most intelligent, deadly prey that makes you feel like a powerless n00b and ragequit after five seconds in Alien: Isolation, to shooting down waves of mindless Alien hordes and getting bored after five seconds in this game.

How about just a moderately paced, narrative singleplayer game in the Alien universe. They clearly have no idea wtf to do with this IP other than run it into the fucking ground.

I mean, that's what the sequel was about.

Aliens rules but it didn’t make the action look like a zombie wave shooter. I always remember the first Alien where one literally took down a dozen people using cunning or whatever. It still needs to not trash the IP by making the aliens braindead

I dunno why it's so hard to just make the AvP 2 Marine campaign into a full game

Horror is always going to be difficult. Most people think jump scares and gore is what makes it, but real horror is hard to get right. I'm not surprised there aren't many people tackling that. Making a good game in general is hard as it is, but combining it with that horror element is a huge task. And in the end it's only gonna appeal to a niche market, so it's already a tough sell. Look at how Dead Space ended.

Have you played AvP2? It's not difficult to replicate that or even expand upon it, there's a big fanbase for the AvP2 Marine campaign and it's super disappointing that it never got any better than that. Gearbox came along promising the world but fucked it way beyond anyone thought possible. This Fireteam game is just grasping for the lowest hanging fruit, and it will no doubt be praised purely for being better than that piss stain Colonial Marines. Dead Space is an entirely different subject matter.

Yeah, it's one of my favorite games, especially the marine campaign. But I wonder how many people know that game even exists. It's in publishing hell currently. There's no way to purchase it except from people reselling old physical copies or pirating it. No One Lives Forever is in the same boat actually, there's a whole article on it if you want to read: https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20150…e-release.shtml

I don't know, it might seem not that difficult to replicate for us, but it's so easy to get obvious things so so wrong. I'd like to see something like it though.

Perhaps the core should branch out with its own game dev team. We could resurrect classics and show AAA publisher monkeys how it's done.

Apart from the fifth it seems pretty easy to imagine what all these do/are. That talks about the skill of the artists… they seem to bet everything on the variety of enemies, I wonder if that’s enough to keep people entertained.

Without clicking the link, I'm going to guess Boomer, Sprinter, Fire Breather, Charger/Tank, Stealth/Hunter, Spitter.
