Well if the S is 1/3 of the raw power of the X, an E could be a good midlife update doubling the power of the S ?

Or just all the specs of the S with a disc reader.

Quote Under the terms of the agreement, Microsoft will acquire ZeniMax Media for $7.5 billion in cash.

The planned acquisition includes publishing offices and development studios spanning the globe with over 2,300 employees, including Bethesda Softworks, Bethesda Game Studios, id Software, ZeniMax Online Studios, Arkane, MachineGames, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog, and Roundhouse Studios. Bethesda’s critically acclaimed and best-selling franchises include The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, DOOM, Quake, Wolfenstein, and Dishonored, among others.

    Damn!

Saw it on twitter and wasn't sure if to make its own topic...

It will be very interesting if they are gonna leverage the acquisition for exclusives, and what's gonna become exclusive.

That was one sneaky uppercut, MS...

I wouldn't be surprised if currently announced titles will roll out as planned, but further down the line everything becomes xbox/pc/xcloud exclusive.

So let's see, with the acquisition they just added 8 new 1st party teams to Xbox Studios

    - Alpha Dog Games - Bethesda Game Studios - Arkane - id Software - MachineGames - Roundhouse Studios - Tango Gameworks - ZeniMax Online Studios

Xbox now acquired/started 15 studios in 2 years. Pretty good.

For the good of gaming, I hope they keep releasing on Nintendo, it’s not really a rival when is downgraded and released after a (long) while.

Hard to believe that they stop. They don't have a portable gaming device and I doubt Nintendo makes Gamepass available on Switch even tho it should technically not be hard to pull of.

They recently also added all their games to steam and it's just another way to get extra revenue for them. Everyone wins. Perhaps that changes once their own platform grows bigger...

Yeah I've seen articles pouring today as well, with more details filtering in, with Spencer saying they will honour the current deals (I mean ofc, would cost a fortune with the contracts that have been signed).

MS seems much more open under Nadella, I mean now they even developing Android devices!

Maybe they were just hit too hard in this gen, or they might be even happy and thinking this lateral strategy will yield the best results. I would bet that the very new titles like Starfield will be Xbox/PC exclusive, at least for one year.

There are news of increased sales for current Xbox. Seems like the weird naming convention is confusing some people in buying current gen thinking it’s next gen

One could think it's genius, seeing this happening, but how much is gonna cost them in returns? ?

It confuses the developers, let alone the customers.

Some pretty nice details about Xbox Series S/X backwards compatibility:

    https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digit…at-really-works

    Quote

Quote So, as we understand it, existing Xbox titles can be enhanced for both Series S and Series X in different ways - the compatibility team can step in with its own specific type of magic, opening the door to running 30fps games at 60fps and 60fps titles at 120fps. Alternatively, developers now have the tools to see where their existing Xbox One games are running - and if it's a Series S or Series X machine, aspects like doubling the frame-rate become possible (and perhaps other features could be enabled too) - all without having to 'port' their games to the next-gen platform. The extent to which take-up will be there is of crucial importance, of course, but the potential is certainly very exciting and we're really looking forward to testing this out on both of the new Xbox machines.

Wow, not even time to report on the price bump, as MS announced doubling the cost of Live Gold, that the backlash killed the manouver and MS backtracks.

I guess they try to push people to Gamepass instead. This time they failed.

I'm sure Gold will be merged or phased out eventually.
