DO NOT READ THIS - HUGE SPOILERS FOR THE END OF THE GAME!

Spoiler Told you not to read! Next spoiler is a proper spoiler.

Spoiler Just finished the game... holy shit what a trippy experience. So you basically retcon the ending of HL2 EP2? I need to read up a bit more on this. But my understanding is that Alyx saves her father and gets taken away by the Gman? Also does this pretty much confirm that the next HL game will be you playing as Gordon Freeman, in VR? Wow, that ending was fucking awesome. Sent shivers down my spine picking up Gordon Freeman's crowbar.

I'm so glad I got a VR headset to try this out. What an experience...

What weapon upgrades are you people (that are playing this) getting? Autoloader and laser sight for the Combine SMG seemed like the best to me, but I couldn't afford the grenade launcher on the shotgun.

Yeah it felt like I was exploring everywhere but I didn't have enough resin for everything. Must have missed some. Tbh I used the pistol most of the game.. I didn't really find the combat particularly challenging. That's probably the one downside of this game, the combat was cool but never very taxing. I kinda wish they'd made it really tough towards the end.

I managed to get the following in that order:

    Pistol - 1. Reflex Sight (10), 3. Burst Fire (20), 6. Bullet Reservoir (30)

    Shotgun - 2. Autoloader (30), 4. Grenade Launcher (40)

    SMG - 7. Reflex Sight (15), 5. Extended Magazine (30)

    So that's... 175 resin that I collected

I think I got roughly the same as you, but went for laser sights on both the SMG and Pistol. It made the game ridiculously easy haha.

IMO sights are a waste of Resin, I ran:

Pistol - Laser pointer, Bullet Reservoir, Burst Fire (pretty useless)

Shotgun - Laser pointer (also useless), Autoloader

SMG - Laser pointer, Extended Magazine

I would have taken the resin I spent on the useless mods to buy grenade launcher for shotgun

Not gonna read of course; read a tweet from @marnamai today, wasn’t explicit but I wonder if what I think it implies is the actual ending/spoiler ?

It's going to be very, very tough for people to avoid HL:A spoilers, unfortunately. That said, I wouldn't read too much into that tweet.

I feel like this review really nails the comparison between HLA and Boneworks.

HLA has better visuals, a mountain of polish, and a captivating narrative.

But, Boneworks has a deep and realistic sandbox that sparks player creativity.

Caved and bought this last night, hype was killing me. Playing on an Oculus Rift on a 4.5 year old machine (Intel 6700k, 980ti, 16GB Ram) and the game runs smooth with no lag and looks absolutely gorgeous even on defaulted low settings. Dat baked lighting!

I just got the flashlight after about 2 hours, a lot of exploring and messing about with shit but had a ton of fun. Feels very Half-Life and it feels great to be back in City 17. Having a lot of fun with it though, looking forward to the rest of the story now!

    SPOILER

Spoiler It's a spoiler, please don't read this if you have not finished the game

Spoiler I mean, I'm serious, really it's huge

Spoiler OK.... I finished the game this night at 3 AM. oh my gad it was so cool and I'm so happy by the way they connected it to Half-Life 2 and its episodes, giving a real explanation of why Gordon suddenly reappears on earth for the beginning on Half-Life 2. And it's an amazing teaser for Half-Life 3 where we should play as Gordon again and look for Alyx with the help of Eli !! It's so freaking cool ! I wasn't a fan of going to the Antarctic for an HL2:EP3, it would not have been an easy playground to make maps with variety. So this is an amazing news because it clearly shows we're gonna get some HL again and the story continues !!

At first I had this idea of the prison being the borealis, it could have been an explanation of why Eli and Kleiner seem to argue either if we should use it as a weapon or not. And then they gave the explanation of a prison with supposedly Gordon inside, it was much more appealing and I just couldn't stop playing the game until I finished it o_o

And oh my gad this game is pretty. It clearly doesn't disappoint, from the beginning to the end

I quite enjoyed the shotgun bit I figured it out quite quickly. My only issue is I'm playing in a tiny space so it was a little difficult for me to position myself to reach out and grab it safely.

Fought my first combine last night, they're quite fun to fight, kinda feels like Time Crisis or other arcade shooters ducking behind cover and popping up to take shots at them.

Having a bit of trouble with grenades, never seem to be able to throw them too far, but that might just be me not being used to VR and I probably need to release the button later to let go of them.

You know what though... fk black headcrabs. I fear them more in this game than I did in HL2! ?

The BIGGEST complaint I have against the Index is the damn cable. I have it setup in a 12x9 room so I can walk around, and the cable keeps looping up on itself to the point it turns into a heavy pile of tangled cable and starts pulling on the back of my headset. So I have to stop playing, take off the headset and untangle the bloody thing. Getting pretty frustrated at that.

If valve take anything away from this release is that they really need to look at their next headset having no cable. Or at least the cable being so thin and light that this issues goes away. Easy to sit here and say this of course, but geez. I am a cable untying master now.

Spoiler I wish this game had the other zombie types from Half Life 2, just to spice things up every now and again. Imagine fast zombies in this ?

^ Enemy idea in the above thread, don't read if you havent finished. ^

This is where quick turning comes in handy. I don't have any problems with the cable when I use it, except for how heavy the damn thing is

Also, this game proves that VR basketball would suck terribly.

I love how they do 19 unique voicelines providing basketball players morale support because Valve did NOT want to cut this, they'd rather just work around how wonky and terrible it is by making people feel better about it lol
