    Hello everybody,

I'm 21 years old level designer from Czech Republic and I'm currently creating maps for truck sims at SCS Software.

I was lurking for a long time and I decided that it's time for posting now.

    Hi everyone

My name is Ivan Štimac, 23 years old from Croatia. I've been obsessed with drawing and art since I was a little kid and fell in love with mapping/modding/computer graphics when I first opened C&C Generals World Builder. So I started mapping for fun for Generals/Zero Hour, later on C&C3 Tiberium Wars (worked on MidEast Crisis 2 mod for some time). Meanwhile been playing around with other engines/games (Gold Source, Source, Unreal, Unity...) Also got interested in CG in general so I've been learning modeling in Blender and digital painting.

Currenty working on a CS GO map with a plan to enter the Reddit/MapCore competition.

    Hi,

My name is Victor and I'm from Stockholm, Sweden. I actually just started mapping and found mapcore through the Reddit/mc-contest. So nice to find a place where you can talk about this stuff with ppl who actually care about it too :) I'm currently working on my first map which I'm entering in the competition. (Yeah, I know. I don't know why either) I've been playing games for 23 years now and been into drawing/design for about as long as that so I really don't know how I haven't started mapping until now.

What else.. I'm 28 years old. I study computer science and economics. I dream of starting a game studio but for some reason work in finance.

    Thanks for having reading!

    Hey all!

I read a gamasutra article about this community and I would like to join and make some friends to discuss game (development) and learn from it

I'm a 23yr old girl from the Netherlands. I've finished my bachelors in Computer Science (VU) and am almost done with my masters Game Studies (UvA). I've been working for an IT company for 2 yrs (mainly Android but also some plugins) now where I've learned a lot more than just coding (working with svn, command-line, compatibility with windows+mac+linux et cetera). That might sound strange (didn't you learn those things in school?) but when you're really working in a production environment with a lot of people you take in different things than when you're making homework that is geared towards a specific program purpose. I'll gladly answer any question ^^ Excited to meet you all

Hey all! I'm Jay. Currently working on the beginning stages of my first indie title and thought I'd join MapCore, seems like a really solid community.

    Welkom!

    Hello all,

My name is Julian offline and Basalt online, currently 23 years old, and this is my first post on the forum.

I've been involved with mapping for quite some time. When I was about 13 years old, I've learned myself to map for the original Unreal Tournament, discovering I love to make content for games just as much as playing them. I wished to study gamedesign at the HKU in Hilversum, but practical reasons prevented me from taking that path at the time. As a compromise, I made efforts to study graphic design at the much closer KABK in Den Haag. I've learned and matured a lot there, but didn't manage to finish the study. I ended up with no degree, but I had just enough critical mass to climb up and get a job as a DTP artist the hard way. This allowed me to move out and live with my girfriend (who is finishing a study).

With the new Unreal Tournament entering open Alpha last year, my fingers started to itch again. I'm still contemplating to give the HKU another shot someday, but as my girlfriend is still working on her study and I have a steady job for the moment, I try to develop myself by spending my free time learning mapping, programming and general gamedesign instead. Off course, my age and past experiences allow me to work on this in a much more serious and diciplined level.

This looks like a great community to discuss mapping (and also get some insight on working in the game industry), and I can't wait to get to know you people.

    See you around.

    HeyHo guys!

My name is Freaky_Banana (or REDBLUTBAL inGame), I am from the USA but have lived in the southern parts of Germany for almost all my life. Therefore german is my native language, eventhough I nontheless love talking to others in english.

I originally got into mapping through another first person shooter game called "Urban Terror 4.1". I had already played that game a lot, when a friend of mine and I got the idea of how cool it'd be, to build an own map, with our personal favorite areas from all the maps we played. So we dove into the topic of mapmapking... quite unsuccesfully. We both had no real idea how to handle the software and quickly gave up. But as time flew, I got into playing CSGO, as an alternative for Urban Terror, thanks to the master servers going offline. By chance (when looking through YouTube for CSGO timings) I came across a series, covering the making of a CSGO Map. With that series, I had caught fire again. So I set my mind upon doing something of my own, and this time for real!

After getting used to Hammer Editor in 30 long hours of creating a small deathmatch map (which is never going to see the light of day), I finally started working on my first "real" map. The defusemap "Intelligence"

So now, some work later, I am sitting here writing to you lovely people, who I have seen support each other for so many maps, hoping to get aided in the process of making Intelligence.

Oh,and my real name is Quentin.

Cheers guys, have a lovely time everyone :) !

Wow, Urban Terror! That takes me back, old Quake mod. I fired it up sometime this year and it was full of people bunnyhopping or something at light speed. I definitely didn't remember that part! Loved the location damage and bandage system though!

    Welcome Quentin :)
