So, enough time has elapsed that we can think about closing the poll soon.

It looks like you guys are clearly: interested in another CS:GO event, interested in another UE4 event, and really intrigued by the 1024x1024 idea. So, we're going to do all of these (eventually)! I think two contests per year is reasonable, personally.

    I have a further question:

    1) Hostage or bomb defuse? Both?

How about a poll to determine if we need another poll?

I think the best option would be the 1024x1024 unit challenge for cs:go and allow any of the official game modes to be used. There are a lot of people that don't want yet another regular cs:go contest.

While I don't think limiting the map size is the best idea for a CS:GO contest, options to vary from a competitive defuse or hostage map would be a good call.

I'd say Hostage or Arms Race, personally. OR, open it up to all game modes but have a 'theme' for the competition, something abstract and open to interpretation like "falling" or "holiday".

Anything but normal defusal, really. The other game modes have been neglected far too long. I like text_fish's idea of working on a more or less abstract theme.

What do you say of something like "The Deal"? It could be centered around a location where two parties exchange goods. Think of the intro from Vice City or the meeting points from Breaking Bad. Also, people could be ambiguous of what's being exchanged and do something like the case from Pulp Fiction.

Edit* All official game modes, except bomb/defuse.

The problem with Csgo maps right now is the lovely possibility of being in a "operation". 80% of people will try to make a Defuse map with a layout close to the common official competitive maps.

it would be fun to see something fresh.

This. I would like to see a contest focused on anything but defuse maps. People will make these anyway and a contest would be a great opportunity to focus on other gamemodes.

I think quality community maps for Arms Race (or similar) would be a nice thing. You won't have to spend too much time on the layout and can focus on the visuals instead where - i think - people can learn the most along the way. And i could imagine Valve to implement maps like these into the game, which are not made for the classic competitive game modes.

But please: Wait with the CS contests, until later in 2017. Would be nice to create stuff with (hopefully) new tools.

I'd say you are actually more likely to get into an operation with a well-made hostage map because there are just so little available atm.

Personally, this is what I'd like to see. A co-op campaign/contest, by Mapcore.

its kind of a bold suggestion though, not sure if people will go for it

There might be a lot of clashing in a project like that, specially if you got 5-10 skilled artists and there is a clear contrast between their props cause they have different philosophies. Would work if it was just a regular campaign contest where people form their own teams.

If we're mapping for coop I'd prefer to use L4D2 or something. There's a good reason everyone forgets the two times Valve have tried to make CS coop/narrative.

We could have a co-op themed contest with any games and platforms permitted, such as L4D2, CS:GO, UE4 etc. It could be cool so see what ideas people bring to the table when there are so many possibilities on many different games/engines.

    Democracy-ception

    ~

As I got Black Mesa in one of the latest sales, I voted for that. Still Source accessible to everyone, a bit of a breather from CS themed stuff but still pleasant visuals. Options for MP or SP (I rather do SP eventually).

Still could be something that we put in a 1024x1024 contest.

Didn't vote for UT only because I'd like to work on UE4 but not within the UT frame (although still good experience).

And guys you seriously believe we are getting Source 2 tools for CSGO in the third-fourth quarter? Unless you have insider news I don't think that any of the recent news point to think something like that, the CSGO team in the recent "community" interview talked of implementig only a couple of systems from Source 2. I don't expect any migration to Source 2 renderer before 2018. Doesn't seem they have a team big enough for a project of that entity.

I'm going to go ahead and close the polls now (I think you can still vote, but as of now it's CS:GO 1, UT 2, 1024 3). I think myself and @Sprony have enough data to steer the process from here and give you guys some cool events in line with what was voted on. Hopefully our future events will be exciting for everyone!
