He's just gonna pay the minimum pledge to get the game -his words- lol.

I was expecting him to say he was going to pledge the maximum pledge a-la Notch on Humble Bundle.

If GabeN was to make the same endorsement now, everyone would hype.

Ps: are they seriously trying to get work done for free from groupies?

A concept artist intern in a week. What am I saying, in a day!, would have produced more material than those 2 paintings they shown in the video.

I think they are overestimating the fan base, rock is dead, the groupies of the 90s now have jobs and sons to feed.

Well.... looks like they learned that people are more wary of investing on Kickstarter these days and the market demand requires some form of prototype be shown. Good for them, and smart adjustment.

Seems as though that time and failure hasn't effected his ego. He went in arrogant, totally unprepared and figured, wrongly, that he could bank on his name alone seeing as how Adrian never worked on games since. Not only didn't he have a single succesful game under his belt since his id Software days, every artist knows you are only as good as your latest work. Seeing his latest big game was Daikatana, that really ain't something worth bragging about.

This course correction was the only resort to not fail horribly.

Plus, the whole premise is kinda lazy. Oh, let's go for a holodeck because we haven't have a single clue on what we want to make so now we have an excuse to make it all. Feels like Daikatana all over again.

Make us a kick ass demo John. A demo so great it puts my reaction to shame. Otherwise, just go home.

It would have been pretty cool if they took the doom engine as the base and then maybe extended it rather than use unreal.

Nice, that was a good call. I really want this to succeed but you gotta work hard for the good things :)

Was going to post it as well, wasn't sure which topic, but was thinking the one he comments Doom ;)

I'm wondering what this guy is gonna film next (not following his patreon) but if I was him since coming this side of the Atlantic, I'd also organize visits to Molyneaux and Creative Assembly

I support him on patreon, I think he's doing a really bold thing that deserves support!

I didn't know where to post this either, but since it was recorded in Ireland, it seemed fitting to put it here, even if Blackroom is most likely canned forever, lol.

Yeah, his Doom documentary was fantastic. Love that he's doubled down on this, the world needs more good video game documentaries.

What do you guys, @(HP) and @Mazy, like so much about him or this format? I love it too, but I'm curious about what the appeal is for people, especialle devs.

The thing I like the most about it, is not necessarily the great editing, the great interviews or great production values, it's the mentality and reason behind the creation of these, specially given the state of the mainstream games media these days, he explains it better than I'll ever could in this video:

I assume it's laid out in the documentary but as a tldr, why was blackroom canned?

They don't touch the subject actually. I think it's because the project wasn't fully backed.

I thought they cancelled the crowdfunding because of the feedback regarding not having any gameplay to show? They claimed they'd revisit the campaign once they got actual gameplay to demonstrate their concept.
