I need a graphics card. I have a budget of up to £200. Been looking at the GTX 1050/1050ti but everywhere I look tech daddies scream "OVERPRICED". Apparently AMD is not great either but I've never had anything other than AMD before so I wouldn't know.

Edit: Found a good deal on a 1060 MSi, don't need help anymore!

Luckily, the new cheap and good gtx 1050s were supposed to launch yesterday, but it seems to be going horribly. Is this how tech product launches normally go? Because I'm not seeing any reporting on what a dumpster fire this has been, but it's totally a fucking dumpster fire. The only products listed on Amazon are third party price gougers selling a $110 budget card for $200+, all the versions listed on Newegg are also marked up and completely sold out, etc. This shit is ridiculous. Even for other video cards, despite news before launch that AMD was proactively cutting prices on their budget video cards to compete, prices instead have skyrocketed by about $40 across the board, according to the graphs on PC Parts Picker.

What the fuck, computer part industry? I just wanna be able to use my computer again. ;(

The Pascal launches have been *bad*. I got my 1070 not long ago (two weeks before my motherboard exploded!), and it was still $30 over msrp. Similarly, while shopping for motherboard, I found the very same i7 6700 that I bought for $350 retailing for $305. Not the best year or so for buying computer parts...

Ended up buying a Radeon rx460, because I found a 4GB model for $120. I'll take the relatively minor looking performance hit in most games (but performance boost for Vulcan!), in exchange for doubled Vram over the 1050.... also I needed to get fucking something eventually, lol.

This is my first time switching back to Radeon from Geforce in over a decade. Hopefully the driver/optimization/etc issues are better than they were. Back in the day, on my Radeon 9250, some games like Fable 1 would refuse to launch in full screen due to weird incompatibility bugs.

It's 2016, we should be able to make a motherboard that isn't a piece of shit.

Well, it'll be cool when I have a PC again in ~3 weeks.

An addendum to the addendum: I cut my losses and picked up an EVGA Z170 FTW, but it turns out my motherboard actually didn't fail in the first place! The CPU actually seems to have died, oddly enough! From what I have messed with it though, the EVGA board is much better than the ROG board. If my PC actually worked I'd be rather happy with it... The BIOS is written in plain english, it's kind of incredible. One weird thing, though, is that the POST is a full color image that's a little ugly, but w/e, it's functional and has almost everything I want. The only major issue is that it doesn't have USB 2.0 headers like I wanted, but that's my case being weird.

First CPU I've seen fail in my life, funny enough, it happened right after commenting on how rare that is with a friend.
