Unfortunately the trailer doesn't show anything

Judging from the announcement trailer, I'm assuming it's taking place in 1970s post-Vietnam era?

If it is then it's a refreshing change and a logical continuation to the 20s and 40s setup of the first 2 games.

I skipped briefly through both vidoes and it looks quite a bit more like Gta than Mafia game now which is :( Doesn't look very inspired.

Yeah in the interview the boss explains the game is set in 1968.

I dig the period, but character choice doesn't convince me (they talk about the "black mafia", I never knew it was a thing, might be interesting finding out more on that) as well as those gameplay fragments in the comment and interview feel pretty generic.

Well, at least the music is good!

I liked what I saw, but it's not exactly "Mafia" to me, it might as well be a new IP really.

I mean, we'll see... it does seem like they're focusing a LOT on story, and that's the watermark of the Mafia franchise really. Open world with linear-esque missions that are there to tell a beautiful story, this is not GTA, and in some ways I do feel they do know and understand that. We'll see!

I love that the music is going to be a huge bullet point in this game too.

I like that you build up your own mob from scratch, rather than trying to get accepted into an existing one. Like in gta vice city :)

Found a German video linked elsewhere, the gameplay sections seen in the interview are here in direct feed

What the hell man... gameplay looks more like Crazy Taxi with a mix of Saints Row. Once again... another franchise getting destroyed. So much for hopes and dreams.

They even have a drifting bar, lmao. If they really wanted to do a game like this, they could have just created a new IP. I'm sorry, but this stuff does not belong in Mafia universe.

So yeah, here's what happened, all this Mafia talk made me want to fire up Mafia 2 again, and holy crap it got me hooked. I remember when this game came out back in 2010 I didn't like it at all because there was a very specific game in my mind I wanted Mafia 2 to be (mostly because I love Mafia 1 so much) and since my expectations weren't met at all, I just couldn't appreciate.

Well, this time around I'm actually playing it for what it is and not for what it could be, and I am enjoying it immensely. I'm about 10 hours in, something happens and the game just fast forwards from 1945 to the early 1950's and everything changes drastically, how the people dress, the kind of cars people drive, the music people listen to, the shops, the whole culture. Basically the oppressing shadow of the war disappears and gives way to a flood of culture and the rise of many things I don't wanna spoil for those who haven't played it yet.

The game is not 100% polished though, it has it's rough edges but overall it's a really good and unique package. I love that the game is open world, but there's no sidequests at all, it's all about the story, it's all about Vito's life.

Anyway... yeah, cool game so far, ended up being right up my alley. It only proves that the wrong expectations can really screw with your experience.

Still bummed about the Crazy Taxi gameplay we saw last year, but hey... game does look pretty fucking good and seems like the story is pretty well written.

Looks really impressive but I'm just not so keen on the setting / time period. I really like my New York gangsters.

This game is just weird every time I see it. I feel like it's missing some sort of sillyness factor for me. The tone makes it look like this gritty, goodfellas-inspired HBO series or something but at the same time it's like this "gears-like" cover shooter with over-the-top, ridiculously violent kill animations. Seems like it takes itself a little too seriously for what it is.

A huge part of the enjoyment in GTA V (for example) for me is just the goofiness of it all, like the interactions between Franklin and Lamar in the intro to the game or just the dumb things the cops/radio djs say. This game just kinda comes across as GTA but without the sense of humour, just seems like it would be hard to get into for me personally. Presentation wise it looks pretty good though, those environments look fantastic and the soundtrack seems pretty solid.

Sorry diversity, but to me it just doesn't feel worthy of the Mafia title.
