Is this suffering the same Batman V Superman problem? I mean terrible writing that only makes up for a messy movie?
I thought BvS was ok, only watched the ultimate edition on Bluray. It kept my interest and the end was the only Superman Comic I ever read, so it was entertaining to me to see a new take on it. Suicide Squad however was worse in my opinion. The plot was the worst thing yes and the treatment of most of the characters was pretty bad too. Deadshot and Harely were really good though.

Yeah, this ended up a chopped up mess. Don't waste money on tickets.
-
Shit, I wanted this to be DCent ☹️

I just went to see it and I really enjoyed myself. I don't understand all the hate. Great soundtrack too. Sure, I can nitpick about a couple of things but it was much better than Man of Steel or BvS.
EDIT: Remember @blackdog that this is supposed to be a fun little movie. Don't overthink it, don't analyze it and just enjoy the show. If you do decide to do that, yeah then @Buddy is right about it being a chopped up mess.

Nitpick about a couple things? Are you serious? But hey, one mans garbage is another mans treasure, and I sure have a lot of garbage!

I look at it this way: Did I enjoy myself during the movie? Yes, I did. Can I utterly destroy it afterwards when I start thinking about it? Yes, I can. So it really depends on how you look at it. If a movie manages to blindside me the first time I watch it, I believe it succeeded, even I can pick it apart afterwards and change my opinion. If a movie already starts to bother me during the initial screening, it dropped the ball. I had the latter with MoS and BvS, not with Suicide Squad. Hence, I enjoyed it more that the first two. Do I consider it a masterpiece? Hell no.

Totally agree with Sprony on the last one, and same reason why I didn't like BvS. To be honest I didn't like any Zack Snyder movie, I think he's a shit director.
-
Thing is, guys, that we are voting with our wallets. Big movies like that have no excuse for being niche-fanboy-pandering scattered garbage and charge 10$ to see it. There is nothing that stops the producers from making this a box office hit and still maintain a clever (or, please, atleast coherent!) story & character development.
Movies are getting dumber and dumber and this superhero craze is going nowhere.
-
Yes, agreed Buddy; thing I'm worried is that they don't look at reviews because they are making enough money even from shit movies just because of the hype and fanbase, plus superhero craze, so they feel compelled to persevere. Especially DC that is playing catch up and has planned so much now that they can't reverse course now.
Only hope is that they will take reviews into account and at least correct course... Captain America The First Avenger was a shit movie according to pretty much everyone when it came out (it's incredibly good compared to some other shit but I digress) then Winter Soldier was very good and Civil War is being reviewed as the best superhero movie of recent times.
I wonder if they can fire people like Zack Snyder or if they are tied too much in contracts that would cost too much to cancel. And to be fair, I like the general grittier vision that DC movies have, compared to the glossy Marvel movies.

blackdog Yes, i was also pleasantly surprised to see the darker tone, at least it made sense in the premise. In the movie however, for half of the running time the action is in night time, with heavy rain and characters dressed in dark colors. During the viewing (in 3D) I've found myself struggling to make out what was on the screen at times

Snyder makes too much money to get him off the boat I'm afraid. Puzzling how he got on it in the first place though.

Ok, let's destroy this movie in 3 minutes. Purely for my boys @Dark and @Buddy. Don't watch this if you haven't seen the movie yet @blackdog!

Ah @Buddy, with darker theme I meant it's just grittier; not the actual night setting which was objectively too much (in BvS, struggled as well with 3D*). That's why I wasn't happy to hear they were re-shooting and editing Suicide Squad to make it "more fun".
*3D is shit, I'm actually making a case if it is curated for three whole length of the movie: after the first 45-60 minutes everything looked flat, I actually removed the glasses coupled times. I think it's just n expensive gimmick and promised not to pay for that anymore. Only movie in 3D I enjoyed start to finish was Gravity. I also noticed that there glasses cause me tunnel vision and the screen feels smaller
PS: I'll try going tonight @Sprony, depends if we do drinks for a leaving due

blackdog, yeah I got that. but gritty theme = darker visuals (which went to extreme here :D)

Anyway seen this Monday on the cheap ticket day in a small cinema.
Not as bad as people say, I enjoyed more than BvS, that imo was a total train wreck in terms of writing.
But this adds basically nothing to the DCU.
Enjoyable thanks to music and jokes, but the problem in BvS wasn't the lack of jokes.
