    You talking Chateau or Piranesi?

Chateau, horribly CT sided to the point where you could expect an 8-0 in casual and 14-1 in competitive if it was ever played in its current layout.

There are many oldschool maps I miss playing on a regular basis.

Piranesi, Chateau, Prodigy, Havana, Survivor, 747, Fastline, Airstrip, Vegas...

Some custom maps I really enjoyed back in 1.6 were maps like Cs_shogun_final (http://cscz.gamebanana.com/maps/172913, I honestly could see someone remaking both this and Truth into a single, new map) and I was overjoyed to see really old maps like Thunder, Siege and Back alley at least making it into an operation. Valve should have kept these three in Reserve Rotation imho, they make for fun pubs.

Woah, that map looks amazing. If I was any capable of making such models I would definitely remake that map.

There was also a map set in Rotterdam we used to play on LANs back in the day, but whenever I google Rotterdam I only get the old, official one.

I think I have an old, cracked version used for LANs on an old harddrive here, with 200+ maps. Maybe I should try to install that baby again and find some hidden gems.

And what happened to Rats maps anyway? They used to be a fun staple of the CS community, at least in my region.

Got ya. Not sure if we ever played in CW; I remember in fun to have good times more often than not, and also with Ts... but was so long ago

I would have thought of 3D_Mike's holland map, but I've found this

That's the one I keep finding, but the one I meant was set in the historical inner city and featured a few bridges over a river. It was a bit like Coldwater in the CSGO Workshop in terms of style.

Anyway, I feel like many maps do not get made or have their potential wasted by not being played due to the current way map selection works in CSGO. The importance of a competitive pool is undeniable, but in reality this leads to a heavy focus on a few maps while all others basically get neglected. Just look at the achievements, not even 4% of the players won 100 rounds on Aztec, which is arguably one of the most popular old maps and a true CS classic. I wish the voting system would be more akin to Garry's Mod, featuring a larger list, flexible voting and (iirc) a ban on the map that was played the last time for the current voting (I am looking at you, Dust 2).

If Valve added this and actually changed up the Active Duty every season in a bigger way while continuing to improve competitive play on other maps it would lend to a far more diverse gamign experience. Alas, that seems impossible in the current situaion. The best we can hope for is for Valve to extend the pool since a few pros recently expressed that BO5 would be a viable option for at least the final of big tournaments.

Not if maps are chosen randomly, I mean if you're good, you're good no matter what.

Why do you want to force maps on players? Especially horrible maps like Aztec. I understand where you're coming from (removing the last played map from the vote pool wouldn't hurt), but if people want to play Dust2 all day, let them. Casual reserve server doesn't stay full for long, there's a reason for that.

It would be even worse for pro players, you can basically forget about strategies, great plays, teamwork, etc.

Developpers are trying to respond to the needs of their players, nothing more. If everybody wants to play Dust2 and you're the only one hating on Dust2, it's your problem, not theirs.

It could be worse, at least we get to play great custom maps on MM. There's still community servers if you want other maps.

    Oh wow, yes!

We always played it as Rotterdam on the LAN, though - someone must have renamed it. My heartfelt gratitude to you, I'm glad I was able to rediscover it after all these years

It is more like encouraging people to get out of their comfort zone. Sure there are players that are pretty good on Dust II since they play it all day long, but they do not want any other map because they fear they won't be as good. And on the matter of pro players, playing the same map all over again doesn't lead to real strategy so much as it is an habit to play that way against a team who plays a certain way. Great plays will be encouraged by less played maps, where it would be more about instincts and imagination! Indeed, it is in front of the unknown that you see what someone is made of otherwise it looks too much like some soccer leagues where nothing really happens that is consistently genius!

Somebody was posting about a port remake on mapcore a while back. TBH though it was one of the worst monstrosities Valve have ever made imho, followed closely by the hostage rescue map with the massive chimney.

Compund. My problem is that I don't really play CS so I'm just a car chasing a wheel

Difference is, back in CSS and 1.6 before Valve's MM, competitive scene used to exist but the biggest part of playerbase were playing the game for fun. All the maps were fun.

In CS:GO, all people care about is how to keep their rank, AKA make all the maps balanced.

Exactly: Rats, kz, jb, zombie mods, warcraft/superhero mods, unbalanced but enjoyable maps... they were all there along with a community build around custom servers. Nowadays it's just skins and ranking contest, even for the casual crowd.

I might remake Chateau sometime, once I'm done with my other maps.

(Cbble assets could technically work, theme would stay the same)

I was looking at it about a month ago, one of the CS:GO ports, to see what would need to be done. Some of them are 1:1, some have some minor edits, but they're all pretty bad. I just remember that map being a nightmare at times on T because of the choke points and lack of any flanking or rotating paths.

I would be interested in co-developing Chateau with you if you're interested in giving it a layout and game play face lift since there's already a few ports to CSS & CSGO.

Otherwise I'll end up tackling something on my own with some Chateau influence.
