I feel the exact way you do, Izuno. I hated some of the cringey character moments, and I felt that Luke was very underwhelming, but overall I loved it.

Just saw it last night... I'd have to write an essay (and started to but abandoned it as it would take all day to write). But I thoroughly enjoyed it. I don't go into movies with expectations, so for me this was a 9/10. A lot of room to write in for Episode IX and the next trilogy.

    Spoiler

There was a forced relationship development between Finn and Rose that I did not like. It felt way too contrived and more 'puppy-dog-love' for Rose. Benicio Del Toro did a great job acting his character imo, but then he is a fantastic actor. As for Luke's death, they clearly indicated that he was exhausted after the confrontation with Ben Solo. His death is a foil of Obi Wan Kenobi as well as Yoda... so I have no issues here. He was a master that knew the time to return to the force. Cool beans. Not epic, but hey - not all characters need a fiery explosive death unless you were in that opening sequence. DAMN! That was some heavy hitting stuff right off the bat. Awesome.

The key I am taking away from this trilogy as they transition off of the OG characters, is the moral ambiguity surrounding all of the characters. They all have good and bad moments, good and bad decisions, good and bad traits. I like this as it deepens the characters, particularly as they learn from failure (Hi Yoda!). This is a more nuanced Star Wars imo, but still Star Wars.

Spoiler As you said sigma, the morale of the movie is that they have to learn from failure, as Yoda said.

Luke accepts he failed Ben Solo, Finn fails to get the codebreaker in time, Poe fails to save the day and lead.

I kind of like this morale, since it does not make the Canto Bight part seem as meaningless.

I don’t get the hate people give that part of the movie either, i thought it was kinda cool to see the Monte Carlo of the Star Wars galaxy.

The sexual tension between Rey and Kylo Ren was nice too, you kinda hoped for him to turn to the good side only to see him eliminate Snoke.

I think Kylo realize that now, when he has everything, he still can’t get what he wants the most. I predict him turning, sex up Rey and together they will fuck up the First order then they will have two twin babies named Luke and Leia. Mind blown.

Joking aside, i want more of Rey and Kylo-Ren fighting together, that was more satisfying than any other fight in all the saga.

Or maybe they decide to do a better job next time. You can't just slap the SW logo and expect people to buy (actually I heard that in China they even removed the SW tagline from the title, around when the trailer came out).

I also feel they didn't marketed this as heavily as Rogue One, like they didn't have faith in the title themselves.

I remember enjoying Rogue One but it seemed too "machined" as a movie, it was missing "that something" and there were some things that just would jump to the eye, if you get what I mean.

It seemed that creating a suite of spin-offs was the way to go for them, maybe to create parallel sagas... so I don't think they will already give up on this.

They've paused all future spin offs due to Solo's reception ?

Lol, for a second I thought he was directing this.

I've been out of the loop for Star Wars stuff but this actually seems cool. I might pirate it ?

I tried to watch Last Jedi and it was so bad I was shook. Somehow worse than the Lucas prequels.

I thought the first Abrams Star Wars was pretty good, and visually pretty good. but man, they blew the last one hard.

I’ve only heard bad things about it, yet people that criticise it are still excited about the next one… which they just announced will be the longest running SW movie, because this is the new trend to give credibility to your work ?
