at a young age I came to find Mazy's IRC channel where I remember playtesting some of the old school hldm maps with TWIX and PRINGLES EVERYWHERE. I was already doing some mapping back then and knew the Core only through the IRC channel. This was probably around 2001-2002. During this time I also found that some members from here were doing the Mapwars, hilarious 15 min to 1 hour hldm mapping contests centered around a theme and then playtesting them. I can't remember laughing so much ever.

It was only after years of deliberation I decided to join here later, as I for a long time considered the place to be off limits for noobs.

It scares the shit out of me to think how long it's been since the early days.

I first came across MapCore in 2000, at which point it had recently evolved from Anarchy. I was a semi-regular idler in the IRC channel, which incidentally I still have all my logs of (behind about 50 padlocked doors).

Funnily enough, I was attracted because some people from MapCore (at least, Taylor) and a Day of Defeat mapping group called iNvasionWorks were having some kind of weird conflict that spilled into the official DoD forums (I was very involved with the DoD community). Klein was part of that mapping group, which is likely how he ended up here too.

From then on I pretty much just made MapCore my 'home' on the internet. To this day I still idle in the IRC channel whenever I'm on my PC, and I was involved with this iteration of the forums since it was first put up in 2003 by (primarily) Mike, Mojo, and Zaphod. I just did my bit as a mod for a while, then as those guys wanted to drift away and focus on other things I took the reigns due to me having years of experience running communities — plus web development and hosting is my career.

And since then I think we've all been living happily ever after! Slowly but surely growing until we finally have enough money to buy an island and all live there in mapping nirvana.

I had the audacity, the temerity, the gall to suggest that Black Mesa Source might not release. I think it's almost ten years later and we're at like a semi-release

Also I was an insufferable prick

Used to be a bunch in the IRC channel for a while. I don't know when that was, around 2000-2001 or so perhaps?

Was pretty awesome with the playtests going on Mazy's maps etc. then

So much stuff from the past being brought up here!

As for myself, I don't recall when exactly or how I got here, probably around 2002 or 2003. Might have been through Mazy's site, but I really can't tell for sure.

I used to be a long time lurker before finally signing up. Took a very big break from making levels somewhere around 2006 or so until when CSGO was released in 2012

I joined in 2008, coming here because for coding a shity gun model into source engine, and wasn't able to find any good help on differents modding forums (mapping/modding area, interlopers, moddb)! What a fool ! I somehow managed to copy/paste some codes and have my gun working in game. Since then, I came back from time to time because I found the people quite fun and profesionnal.

So, 6 years and I'm still the rookie, enjoying every screens i see

Love ya tho Pete (in a bro kinda way)! Glad to have you around here

So I came along in around 2006 when I first started getting into Source mapping. I spent about a month trying to get my account verified, and everyone was really unhelpful so cheers for that!

I remember porting a load of NS1 assets into HL2 and using PhilipK's textures to make some shitty mockups of what NS2 could look like.. It was one of the first things I posted up here.
