We should first agree on what we're gonna produce and organize a brainstorm on skype or mumble and then choose the team roles.

Personally I hate Dropbox. I only used it for our two silly mobile games but it was a pain, forcing an update as soon as you boot a computer, when there were huge updates would basically prevent me from working until it was finished.
Dunno if they changed stuff, but I'm under the impression that it simply replaces files instead of up/downloading the differences.
I see it good only for exchanging files, like a place where to drop builds, media, not to manage a project.

You know you can remove dropbox from auto startup

Good discussion but a bit presumptuous since we haven't even formed a team, created a concept or decided on what we are going to make

What if we do something like this shitty movie ?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vanishing_on_7th_Street
Story plot : Space, alone, manage to find light or die. I think it would be really great, trying to don't loose the light while solving puzzle, non violent but you can easily die and only one goal but a very important one.

1$ for 10Mb seems really expensive
We used SVN for content on Firearms source. It worked but it helped that we had sponsors to pay for our server because we probably used a terabyte of space

-
The idea for a Blue Shift recreation is great, especially if we can use the Black Mesa content. It seems like a good first project since it's not too big. Although, wouldn't there be a bit of creative restraint if we're to keep the same theme as Black Mesa?

Yeah... I know. I think RiouxSVN would be used for long term personal projects (no subscription). I was looking up Cloudforge. Professional version is 10$/user/month. 1 user is 5gb.
(1 terabyte... ... ... wha).

bitbucket is unlimited and free for 5 people. Probably gets expensive after that.
If I buy a new computer in the near future I might be able to setup my existing one as a perforce server. If we don't use it excessively it should be fine.
I'm spending the next couple weeks determining how perforce would integrate with U4 either way so I'll know then a lot better if it's a good solution.
As for the source engine, the great thing about the source engine is it plays great with pretty much any source control. It's like the opposite of Unity (which is a nightmare for this kind of stuff)

Don't most of hostings now give unlimited space?
I'm gonna get again a personal space and domain in the near future, in case it's possible to install a version system I wouldn't have any problem in hosting.

Build on the latest version of Source of course and totally separate from what we are prepping for Unreal.
What about Blue Shift on UE4!?

BS: Source sounds good though, but would require lots of stuff Black Mesa team has already (like scientists and their voices).

If you are going for the (sci-fi) adventure game, what about a situation where instead of having no people around, or them being dead, what if they are frozen in time? In case of a gameplay using the time forward/rewind you would have people walking and doing stuff when triggered. Could use for puzzles (like going through the underground gates) and lots of stuff.
Still think that a kid as character would offer best opportunity for puzzles and non-violent gameplay.
What if kid meets himself in the future?

Imo UE4 is the way to go so the mod wont look old once it's finished. In that regard, yesterday I received a one year UE4 free subscription, but I've just noticed my PC can't run it (yet), but I could help modelling some environment props and making some textures.
I like the 1st person scifi adventure idea, many of us are used to make maps for 1st person shooters, and as we start with UE4 coding shouldn't be as hard as doing a different genre like an RTS.
Btw, I like the scifi stuck in time idea of blackdog, though I'd like few shoots and balck humor.

I'd go for something psychological, maybe you'd play a guy that just got a terrible car accident, and now he's in coma, stuck in his weird world, trying to make sense of it and slowly uncovering some information about who he is etc..
I'm weird.

An adventure, for both grown-ups and kids. Kind of like Simon the Sorcerer 2 or Monkey Island.

I´ve always dreamt about this warm, cartoony, style in an FPS.
