I'm gonna have to say left 4 dead, it's probably the best multiplayer game I've ever played seriously, good times.. to bad they murdered it with the release of l4d2.

and most recently it's dark souls, I can rarely get absorbed so much in a game these days.. need more games filled with mystery and weird shit.

So many games to chose from but recently I'd have to with The Longest Journey. Yes, it's an old school point and click adventure game, but the world and the characters are amazing!

Journey had an awesome world. Played through it in one sitting and it hit me right in the feels xD

Another game for me would have to be Shenmue. Loved the late 80's setting and how alive the world felt. For a 1999 game it was ahead of it's time I felt.

I realise I'm not allowed to say Quake, but ... Quake. After playing for so many years I've sort of "filled in the gaps" in its narrative and these days it feels to me like a perfectly consistent universe.

But I'd also like to second Morrowind, Beyond Good and Evil and System Shock 2 as they all excel in both world and character design. Oh and pre-telltale Monkey Island.

    Well, maybe not Soulstorm?

Yeah, those of the first game were, well, pretty bad. Except Dark Crusade. That was excellent. I was thinking about "Chaos Rising" and "Retribution" for DoW 2. Bloody marvelous. I even finished "Retribution" with all factions.

The ones that come to mind are:

    - Fallout 3: Even i really enjoyed played NV a lot more, I was a total sucker for the whole chasing down your dad thing in FO3. Also the mission where you return to the vault absolutely killed me. Little touches in the environmental art had a big impact too.

    - Bastion: Great characters, unique world, fun game.

    - 30 Flights of Loving: Amazing amount of world and character building for a game with no dialog, still one of the my favorite video game experiences.

    - Brothers: Just played this recently. I loved the various people(and other creatures) that helped you out, the bully at the beginning, and of course that last 10 minutes. never played a game that reminded me of old folk tales.

Also, am I blind or did we really get 2 pages in without anyone mentioning The Walking Dead???

There was also a great game named Hotel Dusk : Room 215 with a nice way to draw the characters, it made them much more believable than in any game i have played before

I fell in love with this hotel and the characters, i loved it

I thought I was the only one that played this. Hotel Dusk was so awesome, such a cool world to fall into. I've been toying with the idea of making a mix of it and L.A. Noire. Love the lowpoly art too. The music had some great mood, it's a shame the sequel was so disappointing.

Kentucky Route Zero is one of my favourite game worlds in recent years, it just keeps getting better with every episode. Kairo has a nice atmosphere. Many adventure games have worlds that I want to know more about, specifically Gemini Rue and Monkey Island.

E.Y.E: The Divine Cybermancy, despite it's bugs, had some amazing world building and slick, well realized, character design.

Hotline Miami has a world oozing of style. I can't wait to revisit it later this year.

Fallout 3 is probably I world I revisit monthly and just walk around for hours, something always happens, the world just never ends, probably the best RPG I've ever played/enjoyed. New Vegas improves on nearly ever aspect gameplay-wise, but the world of New Vegas is just stale and boring to me, FO3 has got it all.

And lastly, Deadly Premonition is a weird world filled with colorful characters, so much fun to drive around town and peek through windows. Very David Lynch/Twin Peaks. I love it.

Fallout 3 is the game that comes to mind on this one. It felt like the game world was changing even while I wasn't really doing anything. And the choices I made actually mattered and changed how I played the game. I really love the way the world is built too, I can spend hours and hours just walking around looking at the assets, it's quite inspiring.

First of all, I have to say Gears Of War: More than just a gore and violent game, there is a great and deep background on what happened because the first episode and the relationships between all the characters that we meet in the game that are not always explained. Most of all, these characters... pffff Yes there're a bit exagerrated sometimes but they are awesome to me. They always have a good word in any situation and the brotherhood between Dom and Marcus is to me one of the best relationship in the games have played. It was so strong and meaningful that I cryied in the third one when... you know, when something happened.

And how not to talk about The Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion. What a game, what a rich universe. I've done the game 5 times and I was stil finding new quests and stories and elements on the background.

    Mass Effect and/or Dragon Age.

And Im one of the few who actually enjoy the Borderlands games for its Stories/Characters/Environments.

I also really enjoyed Fallout New Vegas, even though I played the game for the first time some months ago. It was quiet different from the setting, so I had to get used to it, but it didnt take long until I started to enjoy playing/mod the shit out of it.

I buy any art books I can find related to that game. The whole world and characters are so gorgeous.

Resident Evil 2 was the game who made me want to learn 3d. There's just something in those environments that make them immersive as hell...

This year really loved the latest Wolfenstein.

Ah! How could I forget-- nearly every Rockstar-created universe is superb.
