I might have to pick up an XB1 at some point now, unless there's hope for a multiplatform release a few months after the exclusive initial one:

    Dear Tomb Raider Community,

As you may have seen, we’ve just announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider, coming Holiday 2015, is exclusively on Xbox. We consider all of you to be the lifeblood of Tomb Raider and the work we do at Crystal. I’d like to give you some insight into this decision, and why we feel this is the very best thing for the Tomb Raider sequel we’re creating at the studio.

Tomb Raider in 2013 was a success due in large part to your continued support. Our goal has always been to deliver something truly special with Rise of the Tomb Raider. Today’s announcement with Microsoft is one step to help us put Tomb Raider on top of action adventure gaming. Our friends at Microsoft have always seen huge potential in Tomb Raider and have believed in our vision since our first unveil with them on their stage at E3 2011. We know they will get behind this game more than any support we have had from them in the past - we believe this will be a step to really forging the Tomb Raider brand as one of the biggest in gaming, with the help, belief and backing of a major partner like Microsoft.

This doesn’t mean that we’re walking away from our fans who only play on PlayStation or on PC. Those are great systems, with great partners, and amazing communities. We have Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris coming to those platforms this December, and Tomb Raider: The Definitive Edition is available on PS4.

We know that there are probably many more questions and concerns. Please do send them to us, and we’ll answer to the best of our ability. Meanwhile we’re going all out to try and make something truly special - the most ambitious Tomb Raider game ever built.

    Thanks,

    Darrell Gallagher
    Crystal Dynamics Head of Studios

Bahahahaa. Big long epic speech that basically can be summed up to: "Microsoft gave us shit loads of money, so we are now making our game exclusively for their console'.

Also, Rise of the Tomb Raider is a terribly generic name!

"Rise of the Tomb Raider" is probably the worst name ever.

That was a really disappointing presentation, only showing pictures of the trailer?!

This sucks but it's probably only going to be a timed exclusive.

Didn't the first Tomb Raider sell they least amount of copies on the Xbox anyway? Would be silly not to make this multiplatform eventually!

I guess it'd come out a few months later in 2016 (probably as a superior version with DLC bundled in?)

It's really kinda silly the way they try to word these to make it seem like it's exclusive to Xbox forever. First Ryse, now this. Even the original Halo has "only on xbox" stamped on it, though its on PC as well. I know timed exclusives aren't exactly a new thing, and that Microsoft isn't the only one that does it. I just wish they were more clear so people aren't misinformed. My friend bought an Xbone because of Dead Rising 3, they flat out said it was an exclusive and definitely wasn't coming to PS4 or PC, but then 7 months after its release they announce it's coming to PC. I don't understand the timed exclusive either. Is it really the deciding factor to buy a certain console because a game comes out a month earlier on it? Or are they just trying to grab the people who are impatient and can't wait for the other platform releases? Makes you question if the money they're giving them is really worth it at all on their side. I guess that's why they're so ambiguous about mentioning whether or not its exclusive forever.

    Seems more likely it's timed:

Is there a time limit on the exclusivity period?

"Yes, the deal has a duration. I didn't buy it. I don't own the franchise."

On a snow-themed quest for the secret to immortality, sounds like Uncharted 2 to me!

Joking aside, really looking forward to this. Its predecessor was such an unexpected gem, but as a result it has a lot to live up to this time. It's also got stiff competition in the form of Uncharted 4, which of course exists in that same Indiana Jones-esque genre. Hopefully the end will be two fantastic games of that type this year.

It'll have to be really good to make me get an XBone, though. I'm still waiting for a killer title to convince me to hand over my cash.

    Hey guys,

I was paid a lot of money to make a game for the Xbox One. It's an exclusive. Well, not really, but we are going to pretend that and later admit that we will be withholding the game for a year so that the other peasants can play it too. Also, we put a lot of effort into rebooting Tom Raider. Now that it's successful, we don't feel that need to excel anymore. Besides, the money is already in the bank. We've been playing a lot of Uncharted and The Last of Us. Naughty Dog unfortunately did not want to work with us so we replaced Drake with Lara, copied the Uncharted 2 setting and borrowed a lot of gameplay elements from the previously mentioned titles. It's with great pride that I will show you new gameplay from "Theft of the Uncharted Series". Sorry, I mean, "The Last of Us in the Snow". Dammit, it's "Rise of the Tomb Raider" of course.

    Regards,

    Crystal Clear Ripoff uh... Dynamics.
