Tiago is awesome, no doubt the best graphics engineer I've ever worked with. And a great chap to boot.
THQ... Next Crytek?

With credentials like that he must be insanely good at what he does. He's the kind of guy I would annoy to death with all my questions about different rendering methods and their tradeoffs/performance benefits.

He is, probably more than you can even imagine. if there's a crazy dude that gets close to crazy shit carmack comes up with, that's Tiago. Really perfect position for him too, with his experience and in this stage of his life, pretty sure he just wants to be in charge of a big engine. Fun times, can't wait to see what idtech6 will look like, but i'm sure it will have the best water you've seen, ahah!

That and the most killer dynamic sunlight at 2.5ms GPU render time
-
Suddenly our 6.5ms+ sunlight in Dunia/Bastardized CryEngine makes me cry q.q
-
lmao, well, anything that costs 6ms+ should really makes you consider if you really need it!
Unless it's half your game. -

Unless it's half your game.Ahhh yeah good point, Farcry 4 probably doesn't need sunlight. There's no sun in the himalayas, right?
-
6ms for one feature or the entire render pass?

+1 for Tiago love.
The guy is insane, would come in almost every weekend even when not needed, super friendly, and just did everything from pure passion. I'd already left by then, but I heard he made the whole 3D mode in Crysis 2 just work with Shader magic, almost 'for free', and did most of the work in his spare time. A goldie, for sure!

Just a joke!

Anyone else hear any more news about Crytek? Mate of mine said he's finally been paid, but I'm wondering how you guys are getting on at the UK studio? Hope you're doing alright! I've heard that the env team has shrunk down to like 5 people from 30 odd!

Crytek has addressed its financial situation after reports of employees missing their paychecks and departing en masse. The company behind Crysis and the CryEngine clarified in a statement to GamesIndustry International that it is in a "transitional" phase from a development studio to an online publisher, which has "required us to refocus our strategies. These challenges go along with an increased demand for capital which we have secured." Crytek has remained relatively silent on the issues up until now, though it did deny claims that it is on the verge of bankruptcy. "Internally, we have acknowledged that the flow of information to employees has not been as good as it should have, however we hope you understand that communicating details of our plans publicly has not always been possible," the representative noted. Crytek had been in the spotlight in recent months as widespread reports told of critical financial woes at the studio. According to reports, 'around 100' developers left Crytek UK after having not been paid in full for multiple months. Crysis 3 and Ryse producer Mike Read also appears to have departed from Crytek.

So are they becoming a publisher now?
-
I don't want it, but Gface will finish them. Meaningless service.
