This Belgium team received a ton of praise before the World Cup but so far it were two of the most boring matches I've seen. Today they didn't deserve to win either because Russia, especially in the second half, was much better. But hey, that's football. Still, I'm glad our southern neighbors have made it through to the next round. It gives them enough room to make good on all that praise

Agree, the two games they played was so boring, but it's a team wich like to counter-attack, they are not really used to lead the game, and Russia and Algeria were scared of them imo, so it turned into a really tactical game wich is kinda boring, but it doesn't mean they are bad, and against a better team, they could easily make the surprise.

8| Cristiano Ronaldo still has a chance to go to the next phase.

    USA 2 x 2 Portugal

    Ghana 2 x 2 Germany

Which ones fall and which ones pass??

This is turning out to be the best world cup ever! Was really cheering for the USA today, even though they are pretty limited skillwise they were playing like men and looking to score all the time, while portugal was mostly diving and trying to fake penalties. booooo

anyways, it's gonna be interesting to see Brazil tomorrow, we either start playing football again or we will probably be done for this WC.

I think USA played super well, a lot better than what I expected! Still think they deserved the win but that game was pretty crazy.

Man I'm enjoying this World Cup

Come on man, that's not fair, Portugal tried as much as USA to score and win the match, even more than them since after the second goal US started faking injuries to kill time, while we where still trying to tie the game, which we did, at the last minute. I don't remember any Portuguese player diving to fake a penalty, and we could even complain about the referee since the guy from the US with the dreadlocks should had been expelled on the first half for elbowing one of our guys, and we had a clear penalty in the second half that the ref didn't see.

Anyway, we don't really deserve the tie, the felling around here is that our coach did a really bad job while preparing the team (10 injuries so far, only one proper left winger, etc) and is also doing a bad job while selecting the starting teams for each match. Everyone thinks that it would be better if we had just lost the game and be done with it. Now we need to score god knows how many goals against Ghana and hope that Germany wins by a big margin against the USA... Sooo go Germany!

Ronaldos cross was fucking amazing. All credit to him for that. I think I'm one of the few people who actually likes him on the pitch haha. USA switched off in the last few minutes and gave the ball away, they knew Portugal was going to throw the kitchen sink at them to try and score and they did. If they didn't have Ronaldo though they'd be fucked.

Dempsey and Ronaldo are both sides Talisman players. If only England could create one, lulz.

So isn't Group G the only one where all 4 countries are technically still in it?

    1) If USA and Germany tie, they both advance and Ghana and Portugal are eliminated

    2) If either USA or Germany wins, that team advances but for the losing team, if Ghana and Portugal tie then both Ghana and Portugal are out and the loser of USA/Germany advances

    3) If there is a winner in Ghana/Portugal and a winner in USA/Germany, then the winner of Ghana/Portugal only advances if their goal differential is greater than the loser of USA/Germany, right?

    4) If #3 happens, then if Germany is the loser of its game then it would have to lose badly along with the winner of Ghana/Portugal winning by a big margin to overcome the current German +4 GD and overcome either the current -1 GD or Portugal's -4 GD.

    OR...

Am I misunderstanding that if there is a tie for points they will go by the GD first, then by heads up who beat whom like in NFL or something?

Regardless, futbol is quickly overtaking football as my favorite spectator sport.

From someome that never really liked or cared for futebol, the US vs PT match was nerve racking and entertaining, lmao.

And yes, you're right. All teams are still technically able to pass. We'll never pass tho, specially if germany ties with US. PT is not what it used to be.

I'm not the biggest football fan either, but for the first time I've been watching a lot of the matches with this WC and it's been really good entertainment, loads of goals~~

Oh damn, we're good. Who would have guessed? Nine points out of 3 matches! 10 goals! Humiliated the World Champions! You know what they say, as a finishing touch, God created the Dutch!

If I'm not mistaken, Ghana advances if they win against Portugal (obviously) and if USA wins against Germany, but only if they have a better goal difference. This currently stands at -1 and 4 for Germany, so not a very likely scenario, but still technically possible.

Portugal advances if they win against Ghana and if Germany wins against USA and if they have a better goal difference. It's at -4 and USA's is at 1, so also not very likely.

True. I was expecting a lot more from this game, but we didn't deliver with good football.

Congratz on the first place and nine points btw!

So Brazil x Netherlands was avoided for now... Let's see if Ochoa can save the mexicans from Netherlands attacks.

Everything can happen, but realistically, GER won't slip, they just have to tie or win and they qualify to the next round, I don't see them losing against USA. USA is almost qualified as well but they need to be careful, GER won't be playing for the tie or they might risk losing the game, and GER is much stronger than USA, so it will be a though match for US.

POR and GAN will probably be a even match, both teams need to win by a big margin to even have a chance of qualifying, so neither team will play defensively, so there will probably be lots of goals, which sucks for POR, but whatever.

Nothing is decided but GER and USA are almost guaranteed to pass to the next round.

And I just read some news that the world cup had more viewers than the NBA in the US. Glad you guys are finally enjoying the game

Referee misses it, and two minutes later they score a goal. Italia also got a harsh red card against them.

This match ending was so dramaturgically virtuous
