    Seriously? I switched once to AMD about a decade ago. I didn't like it. I use to build a wide array of machines for a living and I always felt that AMD could out perform Intel in games (before the quad core craze) but never in applications and stuff. What changed? (I'm not trolling btw).

    Well that was a decade ago. I can't really list everything so I'll just boil it down to that these are the best cores they've done since the Athlon 64's (Which were awesome.) Like it said in the review I linked, majority of benchmarks for AMD have been bullshit. My mate got a bulldozer which were slated right off of the face of the earth for being shit: he clocked it to 5.5 giggity hurtz with a regular antec620 and it blew everything he threw at it out of the water. AMD are fantastic for overclocking. My piledriver (8350 black edition) is sitting happily at 4.3 at the moment, I've had it up to 4.5 but my motherboard is being bit of a bitch and I can't go higher at the moment.

    250 go ssds are around 140€

    250 go hdds are around 35 €


    I mean is this really really really worth it, or is it just comfort for people in a hurry for things like booting your computer, get installations or file writing faster, get also precache times faster and that sort of things.


    Because for things like baking textures, most of the time your computer spend calculating is caused by the buffer limitation of the RAM right ? Not so much the writing time of the files on the HDD, or is it ?

    SSD is the best thing you can spend your money on, I joke not. Everything is faster.


    And as for the overlclocking, yes it still matters. Of course it depends on what you're doing with your computer. I'm playing games on maximum settings and then some. Running lots of programs together and just generally getting the most out of my PC. That's why I buy AMD as I can just buy a lower end chip and turn it up to one of the higher tier ones for half the price.

    Clock speed have never been as important as being able to process instructions fast. CPU cycles do not necessarily mean that it will process the information faster, because it all depends on the architecture. At this point any CPU with modern quad core tech will be sufficient not to be a bottle neck in the grand equation that is a computer. The biggest bottleneck up until the advent of SSD drives has been data routing, but that has been solved pretty effectively. So unless you have some VERY specific CPU intensive processes going on (e.g. building VIS for an entire game at a time) you'll be fine with your average modern multi core CPU.

    I would not spend more money on a case than on SSD. Some cases are really good and cheap ( Antec One, Antec Three hundred two just to name 2) http://www.ncix.com/detail/antec-t…-67326-1141.htm (Put that money towards the pieces that matters, GPU, CPU, Memory? )

    I would go for a GTX 660 (200$CAD - 135$ Euro) Performs better. Or a GTX 760 (190$ euro) But That's just me, I'm a gaming enthousiast!

    Oh damn that what i was actually afraid of, compatibility. That's what i was thinking about the case, but eventhough for the cheapest ones i still find them expensive ( like you said ~ min 45€ / 60$). I always had a lot of heat problems on the graphic cards with my previous computers, so this time i'd like to have a case well cooled which lets me add fans.


    Merci dans tous les cas !! C'est effectivement un choix ténébreux, et il est très dur pour le néophyte que je suis de ne pas tâtonner dans les previews hardware et autres forums d’aficionados. A fortiori quand il est compliqué de savoir si les commentaires, les notes et les previews ne sont pas de nature commerciale. Mais j'ai toujours entendu dire que la RAM, y compris celle de la CG, était le plus important pour le baking de textures et autres Zbrush lancés à bloc de millions de polys (~ 16go de RAM et la carte graphique adaptée en mémoire vidéo au boulot).


    Mais je me ferais aussi bien un peu de gaming à l'occasion !

    Make sure to get a regular mechanical drive to go with your SSD dood. Put all your junk 'n shit on the mechanical and use your ssd for your work and windows, etc.

    Speaking of which, how long you guys think it's gonna take to be able to get the super-HD new displays at reasonable price? (27" for 300-500€)
