My name is Shawn, im a 19 year old college student at University of Rhode Island.

I wanted to just post a few screenshots from my website of some stuff I did in Hammer. None of the shots are rendered in the game as they wouldn't compile.

They're mostly just shots from hammer with some handtouch airbrushing. Anyway, I think they're a true testament to the power of Hammer, which was no doubt

not conceived for these purposes. Now, if I can only learn to use 3ds max haha. There are more at my website, which is http://%7boption%7d.

I also compose music (some of which was for a halflife 1 mod that bombed called AMOD) and thats available at (its a long one)

    http://%7boption%7d

    Thanks for viewing and listening!

looks cool, the last pic you need to turn texture filtering on in hammer options so it doesnt look all pixely though!

did you actually make that guy in brushes or what?

Well, that's also a way on how to show off your map when it doesn't compile.

Impressive stuff for the most part, though some parts look a little dodgy (here's looking at you, buildings next to the submarine!). For me the best shot is the underside of the submarine, though the bit on the left looks like it has been covered in carpet

As an afterthought, shouldn't this really be in Finished or WIP level design?

I haven't gotten to try HL2 hammer yet.. real bummer. I just have the demo for now. I was hoping to get my hands on a not-in-store-for-money copy. I didnt make the people with brushes haha.. for most pictures I layered them in from HLMV. For the car one howerver, I had Hammer 3.5 which supports in-scene models. I wish I knew more about Hammer for HL2 because I'm curious if its less whiney about 'texture axis perpendicular to face' and 'invalid solid structure', etc. WIP like work in progress? These are prettymuch done I guess. Thanks for checking out my pictures though

Any brushes that were invalid in HL1 will be invalid in source - its not really about the program being whiney, but about the structure being ACTUALLY impossible to calculate (unless it was smart enough to split four sided faces into triangles itself that is).

WIP is work in progess, but if these are complete they should be put in the finished work gallery I guess. Hell what do I know, I'm fairly new around these parts myself

*Some* of those are ok, but for most you just chose the wrong way to make your stuff, which ruins pretty much everything. I think you are talented to make some nice scenes, and to chose the right angles and colors and whatever is needed to make pretty pictures. (Which is different from making art, but 99% of the people on the internet don't understand that so you can basically ignore that). Anyway, i really think you should try to learn something else. If you like to play with terrain and props you will like Vue d'Esprit, i think that'd be a far better platform for your work.

Quite impressive, especially the 2d viewport screenshot of the car.

Like peri said, learn modelling! I think you'd be really good and you would be able to fully visualize your ideas.
