Sprony and the Pendulum

    There's really no need to post this here. But I can't vent on other social media due to the secrecy regarding this so that's why I'm posting it here just to get it off my chest.


    You know, everybody can get fired and that's the way the world unfortunately works. Just look at Irrational. I just got word that next week we'll each have a conversation with the manager and HRM regarding our future here at my company. We know for a fact that jobs will be lost. Now I have to wait a week to know whether or not I'll make the cut.


    Normally this wouldn't bother me too much expect this time things are different. We're expecting our child on the day my wife her contract would have been renewed. This will not happen now and by the looks of it, I might be out of a job too. So it's likely, that within a couple of months, we'll be stuck in house we can't sell (with little room for a child), we can't sell for less because we can't afford to pay the difference, we'll both be out of a job and we have a newborn to care for.


    So, I really feel as if I'm in the pit with the pendulum closing in. A week is long time to feel this nervous.

    I'm sure your employer have some brains and will take that in to account (the newborn). I hope all will turn ok for you and for your wife, finger crossed !

    Yes you are right, i was thinking in more "money" wise case scenario.

    Sorry to hear that dude, that's sucks . Life is a bitch sometimes, i guess only the luckiest ones here can say the contrary. I'd say be sure to team up with your wife and make the best out of this together, that's what a couple is for; don't let the situation getting between you two cause that's probably the worse and the most treacherous thing that can happen. Be comprehensive to each other and avoid yourselves all sources of unnecessary stress, that's not what you need atm .


    And won't you get a jobless pension in holland after being fired ? Could you not find a less paid non stressful job like mailman, delivery guy or security agent in the meantime ? You'll make it, there is always a way to make it, whatever it is.

    I'm pretty sure they don't give a flying fuck about personal situations. Besides, my colleagues have houses and families too.

    Yeah man, well, I'll tell you what I believe, shit happens. The only problem now is that I'm burning through savings to buy all the baby stuff Luckily we're getting a lot of stuff from people as well so that's a relieve.


    Great tips regarding the relationship. We've already had a good talk and luckily for me, I've got a really awesome wife so for now we're cool.


    Yes, but it depends on the numbers of years you've worked non stop. So for me, I've been working non stop since 2005 (had a year sabbatical before that) which gives me the right to have 9 months of social security. After that, it's welfare. So we should have a pretty good safety net. Plus, hopefully, if I don't make the cut, I'll be able to get another position within the company. Since I have a permanent contract (not sure if it's the correct phrase) I'm entitled to employer help in finding something new. Maybe they put me back in the call center. At least that's what I keep telling myself to keep the spirit up

    It's good to be prepared, bad to be worried or stressed. Worry about what you 100% know, this is still speculation.

    You've complained about your job here before, it might be a blessing in disguise. Next time you worry ask yourself the opposite as well, maybe it's a good thing, maybe it will cause personal growth, maybe some nutjob would come in and blast this place the next week you're working there. Getting fired =/= end of your life, and even if it did, you have to think about Valhalla and how sweet that would be, fighting other sweaty, axe-wielding Norsemen in heaven

    But props to you for making me laugh especially regarding my religious heritage


    I try to look upon it as a blessing in disguise but nowadays I'm far less concerned about my personal ambitions, having fun at a job, etc and I'm more occupied with having financial security for my daughter. It really changes how you think and look at things. At least for me it does. However that does not take away the value of your suggestions. Suggestions I'll do my best to keep in mind.

    That sucks man, but always try and see stuff with the bright side, no matter how hard it is, like maybe it's your chance to do something you always wanted to but never really had the drive to or the time?


    You can always use this week to think in advance and do some soul searching, you don't like that job anyway. And fuck man, I know there's responsibilities in life too, there's a baby incoming, etc but life's so short if we don't strive for happiness what is the fucking point.


    PS. Also, once again, grats on the baby! It must feel great to pass on the torch!

    Whatever happens, anything can have positive consequences in the long run if you keep a positive mindset and learn from life. I've been through a lay off before, was angry and that forced me to work hard on my shit which eventually lead me to get a job at Blizzard. I would probably be somewhere else now if that hadn't happened.


    If you lose your job now, you will have plenty of time to focus on your baby during the first critical months. Which parents have that opportunity nowadays? Even if you go through some financial hardship in the coming months, I'm sure your baby will appreciate the time you spent with him/her forever should that happen.


    Sometimes when we look back there are "coincidences" which have very positive impact in our lives in the long run, and maybe this is one of those cases. Don't freak out and stay aware at all times

    You're right! Thanks man, don't know about the torch part though. Really depends on how she turns out I suppose. But I feel blessed either way.
