So i'm gonna dump some of my 2D stuff in this thread. I don't have much experience with digital painting yet. Around 10 years ago i took some art classes once a week but that's my whole art background. I started getting into digital painting sometime october/november last year because i was really pissed at my art skills. Couldn't draw a straight line to use this overused phrase.

It was a problem for me that i never started to feel comfortable with the wacom. Maybe you know that problem as a 3D artist you spent days or a week or two in 3D application then only a day in photoshop. Digital painting i figured is a good way to keep the practice level high and would help me with texturing and also with sculpting in the eventualy. And so far has worked out pretty great. I'm still a noob pretty much but even after such short time i see progress when i compare with my very first tries.

Lot of them are works i did for the Daily Spitpaint Facebook group:

Thx man. I try to be bold with colors. Back in the days i painted lots of dark and depressive stuff. I also watched a video of some guy demonstrating that with brave coloring you can make even a lame picture interesting. That has influenced me.

They are not in perfect chronological order. I didn't start completely from scratch tho. Obviously working in games, making 3D art, texturing props regularely etc. gives a bit of a headstart. I still have a long way to go learning to paint some more complex stuff tho like characters and concepts for hard surface. Also want to learn how to paint in this stereotypical cartoony video game style like wow etc.

Some new paintings. I should really try to paint more people/characters but it's hard because it never was a subject matter that interested me much. At least i'm getting better at landscapes/skies. That's a start. Can try to go more to architecture and tech stuff from there which is job related.

Awesome stuff. I do find myself wanting some more hard edges and hard shapes, though. (especially in mr. mountain)

    Nice work!

Is the first piece retouched afterwards? Because the light sources (and wet reflections) have a photorealistic feeling that clashes a little with the rest of the composition.

In the last one, i'd wash the mountain a little bit more, to give more depth, but liking it a lot - impressive clouds!

Not sure what exactly you mean by retouched. The whole thing is painted, no photos were used. I faked some chromatic abberation tho by moving the blue channel a liitle and used a filter for some film grain.

I mean by adjusting brightness/contrast/etc on the finished piece.

I know you painted it, but it feels a bit like you integrated a couple of textures there. Which in specific is a good thing, but in the global composition doesn't feel completely finished.

    Makes more sense?

Yea makes sense. I always make some adjustements before i publish the work.

There are no textures in there (as in photo overlays). Texture is created by use of different brushes (some brushes might be textured tho) and blend modes. So i take that as a compliment. That spitpaints most of times don't feel finished is a given because of the 30 minute time contraints.

Of course i could spent some more time afterwards but the 30 minutes fits well in with how how much time i'm willing to spent on painting every day (mostly do 1,2 spitpaints and another half hour just doodling something).
