I bought the game upon release but stopped because the combat pissed me off so much. Going at it again now with the Enhanced Edition and damn, forgot how good looking this game is. I'll be dumping screens in here until I finish it, so probable location spoilers. All I've done is shrink the res down from 1680 to 1280.

I'm pretty sure there is a combat rebalance mod available, but to be honest I found it rather simple, much simpler than The Witcher's actually. Still I preferred the kind of rhythm game in The Witcher, even if combat in The Witcher 2 is bloody awesome too, and particularly brutal.

I have this sitting on steam as well, does it work well with a controller or is keyboard prefered?

PC Master Race says keyboard, but you can use a controller if you so desire.

    Fucking 10+ for that Avatar!

We should have a combined Witcher thread where we can all talk about the games and post awesome screens. I'm in Act 4 now of the first and even though this game is 6 years old it still looks amazing. I've got over a 100 screenshots so far and I don't often make screenshots in games.

Funny you should post this now because I was going to you use my Sunday "don't do dick" shift tomorrow to write down a lot of stuff regarding my experiences so far.

Been watching a coworker playing it for the past weeks, game looks incredibly sharp! Imagine Skyrim or Fallout with that level of sharpness

Yeah I think they have some sort of sharpen filter going on in the game I guess? On top of the really high res textures it actually gets a little *too* sharp at times funnily enough.

Everyone I hear who played it with a controller complained that it controlled poorly, which I didn't feel at all using mouse and keyboard. I don't think they really intended it to be played with controllers.

Realized I posted in the wrong thread earlier

It is quite an overwhelming game from my experience, and this is from someone who finished everything in the first witcher. Stick with it though, just hack away at it when you feel like it so it doesn't end up feeling like a second job that you're forcing yourself to do

I will, but I fear it will end up like Skyrim where I did everything but the mainquest and eventually got bored and stopped playing.

You have the combat mod installed? The one made by the combat designer at CDprojekt.

I'd tell you if I could, the mod section on the launcher has decided it doesn't want to tell me anything anymore. I had special armours and stuff so I imagine the combat mod is there as well.

So I've playing this game a lot. Since The Witcher 3 is around the corner I've decided to finally picked it up (it's been in my library for years). Especially because I had such a blast with the first one last winter. Funny thing is that I didn't forget this thread. So I knew it would be a pretty game to play. However, I installed it months ago and figured I already configured it. The story is so compelling that I didn't think about the visuals. I thought it was beautiful but a bit outdated (3 years have passed). In Act 2 however I ran into some nasty pop in so I checked the settings, guess what? Everything was on low. Imagine my surprise when I switched to the recommended settings. This is by far the most beautiful RPG I've ever played. Can't stop pressing F12. Seriously considering starting over with max settings.

Visuals aside, this game is amazing. It's story is compelling, it's quest design is dripping with originality and it's world is just begging to be explored. I'm already 45 hours in and I think I'm only half way. What a game. I never thought it was possible but Fallout 1 and 2 are no longer my number 1 RPG's. I also get the comments regarding the combat mechanics. It's too simplified. Admittedly, the combat system from the first certainly required some getting used to but once mastered, it was great. Especially the fact that you could switch between attacks (like group attacks). Now it's just fast or heavy attack with a bit of parrying. Certainly not bad but I prefer the combat system of the first.

Anyway, starting Act 3 now and I've made some far reaching choices (I suspect) so let's see how deep the rabbit-hole goes.
