Unit size 3dsmax -> hammer

Yoho. The wiki says that 1 unit in hammer equals 1 generic unit in 3dsmax. But they don't match for me. 3dsmax units seem to be more than 2x bigger.

Also, if I resize things in max with the general resize tool, hammer doesnt recognize the change. But if I scale all the verts instead, hammer recognize it. Wat. Plz help.

Maybe you can use cm scale in 3DSMax? It will be easier to get proper dimensions when modeling. ~480 cm is 256 units in Hammer but I'm not 100% sure.

    Here you go:

Yes, that is where I found "Note: Hammer units are equal to 3DSMAX's generic units."

I'll try with cm, see if I can make sense of the conversion. Thanks for the reply.

I have selected generic units and system unit scale is set to 1,0 inches. My models are in perfect sync with hammer.

Of course also check in your qc files that $scale is set to 1.0

Stepphenwolf that makes sense to me but I had the same settings.

I changed system unit scale to 1 unit = 16 feet and it's 1:1 with hammer now. Maybe that helps someone else.

source (and unreal) should both be inches. It might make more sense sometimes to still work in meters to get metrics right and then use 2.54 in QC (if that still works).

1 unit = 16 feet? That doesn't sound right. I would dig a little deeper there to find out what's wrong. Maybe wrong settings in your maxstart.max?

Her's a picture of my exact settings:

According to their wiki, 1 hammer unit should be 0.0625 feet

he probably got some numbers mixed up. as 16 units = 1 foot.

character models in source are actually 1 unit= 1 inch, though.

This is because you should not really use the scale tool in Max until you've really got a grasp of the effect. Unfortunately, the scaling tool does not do what you think it is doing at the object level--it is changing the underlying transformation matrix of an object instead of just scaling its vertices as a new user might expect.

You should always scale at the sub-object level, reset xform before exporting, or see more options here on Oh No, My Scale is Wrong (written by the embarassed dragon).

    This is my setup:

I just did a test export and it was 1:1. Same settings at home and in school, same results :z.

Shawnolson: I figured it was something along those lines. Thanks for explaining that.

edit: Checked that qc $scale is set to 1.
