This show is awesome, I didn't even realise how deep it was until I started reading the reddit discussion page about it: http://www.reddit.com/r/TrueDetective/

Those guys have reminded me of quite a few things I either missed or dismissed as being irrelevant - in a way this show is having the same impact on me as Bioshock Infinite did, love stuff like this. One of the things reddit has turned up is (Spoilers for those who aren't up to date)

the possible implication of Marty's daughter in this Tuttle family child abuse ring. Pictures in Marty's house on the walls, the ones she drew that his wife showed him, the arrangement of her dolls in one of the early episodes etc all prove that she could possibly have seen the video tape that Marty watched this week when she was younger, or that she knows about what went on in some other way (was she abused? was Maggie's father involved?), hence now being on medication and a bit messed up.

http://i.imgur.com/XTl65Y0.jpg. A lot of the theories might amount to nothing, there may be a lot unexplained eventually (will Rust's visions come into play?) but either way I think all the theorising for things like this is cool and it all makes me look forward to next week's finale even more

These HBO miniseries are generally pretty good. They can actually have a good plot as there is a clear end.

Rewatching this in anticipation of the finale. Want to lay out as many pieces of the puzzle myself before it gets spelled out.

This shit is tight. Depressing, but tight.

Thank you! I was getting the impression that my English is getting worse over time because I sometimes have no idea what is being said on this show.

    10/10 would watch again

Personally it's one of my three top shows on currently, along with Game of Thrones and Hannibal. I'd say grab the whole lot and binge watch them this weekend in anticipation of the finale on Sunday

was a really good series overall but I'm a bit disappointed that I got on board the speculation train and started reading too much into it all, when really there were a lot of red herrings in it that were ultimately irrelevant it seems. This article summed it all up well I thought:

The finale was pretty good, but considering the thoughts that the mid season episodes started evoking then it fell perhaps a bit short. But I'd also say that it's more about the journey rather than the destination, in terms of story telling at least.

Anyway, great show, one of the best in ages. Going to be interesting to see what they do with the new season/cast

Aye, it was a good ending but a tad underwhelming. It was one hell of a buildup for just catching one crazy guy (and not a coven/sect/group as the show seemed to imply). I was really surprised they didn't go after any co-conspirators (seeing as there were 5 men mentioned a few times, seen in the tape and crafted out of beer cans during Rust's interview). The ending did do some cool stuff I didn't expect though, like Rust finding redemption and shit.

Yes, but as Marty said: "Can't catch all of 'em, what matters is we got ours" and I think it reflects pretty well, like The Wire did, there's nothing glorious in the end, you just feel good you got to close the case, go have a beer/whiskey and try to solve the next one.

Colin Farell is a good actor actually (there, I said it). Vince Vaugn... well, McConaughey starred in the last one so maybe they can turn around another career?

Farell is excellent in In Bruges, and McConaughey surprised everyone with his performance in the first season. Then again, it is a tough act to follow, and I would have been fine with just one season.

Heh, the same movie that I had in mind. I love In Bruges, it's so damnd good. It's a tough act to follow, for sure, but luckily each season is standalone enough that there's some "distance" between them if this ever completely derails. Makes me more at ease anyway, I hate when shows take a nosedive and take the characters we love and dilute them to an unrecognizeable state.

McConaughey's career wasn't turned around by true detective. If anything what turned it around that year was Dallas Buyers Club.
