I couldn't watch the video. 5 mins in, no gameplay. Jumped further on the video, didn't see anything but a moving controller icon onscreen shaking like a dancing butt. This is not a game. Blargh

(youtube comment:) What's going to stop people from playing this for free on youtube?

i don't understand why the game is designed this way. are they not aware that they don't need to remove the player agency for it to be immersive and story-driven?

I am getting this day one, and I'm on a complete media black out! The only thing I know is that Ellen Page is on it, and that she has some kind of super powers, other than that, blank! Heavy Rain was a good game, looking forward to this. I bet my wife will love it as well.

Edit: Didn't we already had a thread for this game?

Can't deny it, I loved both Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain. I know, I know... they had issues. But the atmosphere they created really drew me in and in a really unique way I've not experienced with other games. Their focus on the mundane as much as the exciting works IMO. I guess it's like Metal Gear Solid: a love or hate type thing.

I really liked Heavy Rain so I have high hopes for another fun QTE adventure thing. Everything we saw around E3 2012 looked promising.

Then I played the, um, playable demo, at E3 2013. It was an odd section where it felt like it was trying to be Metal Gear Solid 4. Except it wasn't. And the lighting felt really off. IMO it wasn't the best level to show (mid-east urban recon/stealth with baddies around shooting. Sometimes shooting at you?) as it wasn't really clear on what to do. For example, at one point you somehow get on a truck at near the end of a stealthy section. Except it felt like and old school adventure game pixel-hunt problem. And I didn't figure it out, probably because I wasn't standing in the right spot looking the right way for a nano-second. That gets a big design facepalm imo. It's not a hard fix for a LD or scripter, so shit, maybe it will be fixed for final version as I even told the nice person from Sony about it. He said basically everyone that day at E3 had that problem with the demo.

Anyway, I'm still overall excited for this and hope to get it, but I'm hoping my experience playing it (sure, it was only 10 minutes) was somehow not how the entire game is going to be. Because that's always the case...

I wanted to like Heavy Rain, but the writing was subpar for a game that committed to narrative quality and maturity. Maybe if they didn't sacrifice so much interactivity I would be able to see past this. Still, the pacing was pretty good and the production values were amazing. There is some very good stuff in this game.

I want to like Beyond: Two Souls, but David Cage (the director/designer) says so much inane shit I instantly lose all faith in him.

    e.g. this right here; http://www.vg247.com/2013/09/30/bey…ting-says-cage/

He replied, “It’s a very interesting situation right now. I think with the games we make, we’re in a more interesting position. We get these preconceptions certainly from hardcore gamers who say, ‘Oh it’s not a videogame. It’s interactive cinema and we’re not interested in games where you don’t shoot.’ So they’re not interested in our games.

he's not just poisoning the well by generalizing the 'hardcore gamer', but also creating this straw man that completely ignores the point behind the interactivity criticism. If this is the opinion he's left with after Heavy Rain's criticism, I honestly don't see how Beyond can be any improvement.

“But at the other end of the spectrum we see people who are like, ‘We see what you’re doing, delivering emotion, but videogames are still all about violence and shooting.’

    what the fuck.

Ok guys, i've just finished the demo like 2 min's ago.

First of all let me get this straight, i'm a HUGE fan of Farenheit and Heavy rain (i was defending HR very often against theories that it's not a game, that it isn't solid in terms of story ect)
My first impression - i hope i woudn't play the demo (i urge you not to download it !) not due to spoliers (demo doesn't spoil anything, unless you havn't seen any trailers before), but after finishing it i feel like i'm in a middle of something that i can't finish now.
BUT i'm very dissapointed, showing you all the time what to do, make you feel like a retard (but after rethinking it for a while, it just like heavy rain, so i probably just lost the habit of playing like this). Not entirely, couse the demo (and i presume the game will be like this) is even more QTE than Heavy Rain and if you do smth wrong, this game doesn't even punish you, so you can press or move what da fuck you want and still progress !
There is a part in the demo where you drive a bike and you don't need to turn, the game will make you turn by itself when you hit the end of the road. The gameplay machanics are very frustrating, but as i said maybe i need to get used to it again.

but there are some WOW parts - i wont make it very detailed but playing as the entity is just fucking A !
and graphics, guys Holy FUCK, let me say this. If someone told me this is the launch title for PS4 i would say YES, IT LOOKS LIKE IT - this game is looking soooo fucking great, its hard to belive it's PS3 man ! at some point i would say it looks like MGS5 and i mean it !

David Cage: "No one should be allowed to define what a game is"

"Some people can be very conservative about this medium and this is sometimes frustrating," Cage said. "Some people wish that games would always stay what they were in the past 30 years, just with more polygons. No one should be allowed to define what a video game is or should be; no one has this power."

"A video game can be so many different things. Angry Birds is a game; Call of Duty is a game; World of Warcraft is a game; Gone Home is a game. Who can decide 'you are a video game', 'you are not a video game', 'you are not a part of this family?' No. Let's open this medium to whoever has different ideas and it's great to see people trying to do games where shooting is not the main thing."

"There are people on both ends of the spectrum that we need to convince. One one side we have hardcore gamers who think that games should only be about shooting and about action and killing and competing and adrenaline," Cage said. "And we need to convince these people to give Beyond a try and say 'OK, this is going to be different'. Yeah, it's about a young woman. No she doesn't have a gun. And maybe you will enjoy the experience because it's different, because it's something you haven't played before." http://www.gamespot.com/news/david-cag…game-is-6415457 Kinda agree with him! loads of people hated on him for making Heavy Rain but I respect him for trying.

man i love HR, i really do, but here you have very much less gameplay than Heavy Rain had, and this is big concer cause you just watch a 9h movie, i was really frustrated when playing the demo, tell me after playing it how is it, maybe the demo had just bad parts of the game tho
