I'm fucking phat, can't stop eating shit :gonk:

Colleague at work has started weighing a group of people to make herself feel better about her dieting, I managed to gain 4 pounds in the first week, Imperial doesn't mean shit to me, so yesterday when I finally managed to go back to gym stepped on the scale and I'm 82.8, I must lose 3-5kg. Then see.

I'm a reformed carb lover. I noticed that I need them post workout and I need a consistent level of sweet potato intake to feel energized and able to do shit. But it's easy to re-embrace carbs when you've cleared your system of old pizza and fucking bullshit carbs like that

Also eating some honey before bed and it's pretty c00l, manuka honey so its actually not rotting my teef

Carbs is energy, you can't do a workout without them, you SHOULD eat them after workout !
Right now on my workout day I eat around 300g of carbs (potates, bread, rice, fruits, sometimes I grad a fast food ect), on my non workout days I'm lower than 200g of carbs. Right now I'm cutting down, it's my more or less 8th week, and I'm doing really good. All of you ppl who says that carbs are bad for you, don't know shit and probably you think so after reading some Men's Health magazine, or some other shit I did read a lot of that shit, been training for years, when I want to gain weight i do it, when I want to loose i do it. If you know what and how much you should eat, that you know all (of course, if you're not pro that is ) LOL

Srsly guys, I'm not talking you should be eating over 300g per day, I'm just saying that without carbs you can't gain muscles, you will feel bad and tired ect.
    Just saying ;)

Carbs are the best, each meal should consist of carbs and protein in vast amounts, even when not doing any exercise :D

And so begins my journey as a level 1 noob... Standing at 182cm (6ft) and weighing in at 115kg (254lbs) I've made a very basic few steps in trying to slim down and build up (I'm naturally quite broad and my fat distribution is pretty even so I don't look as heavy as I am). I'm getting married next year in May, and rather than the cliche "trimming down for wedding", I'm looking at it as the deadline to sort my health out for the rest of my life (tomato / tomato?).

    So far I have been:

    • avoiding sweet treats
    • avoiding excessive amounts of carbs
    • trying to not eat past 9pm
    • stop eating when I'm full (not when plate is empty)
    • drinking about 2l of water a day (occasionally mixed with sugar free squash)
    • making my own lunch (if buy I make it's sure healthy)
    • practicing deadlifts with home weight set
    • unweighted ass-to-grass squats

I haven't looked into my dietary macros in too much detail yet either, I'm slowly piecing it all together and so far feel better for it. I didn't think much had changed, but family are already commenting on me looking trimmer which is always nice.

Anyway, I liken this to running around grinding sheep for xp, when I need to work out the best mobs to grind for each given level for maximum efficiencies!

Wish me luck and if you've got any tips, please don't hold back. I'm tired of being soft around the edges.

Am I the only person on earth who doesn't know any fitness terms or any other of that fancy stuff? I don't know how to bulk, cut etc :D :(

    I just:

Calisthenics (including lots of pull-up bar excercises or however you would call them)

Jog, Parkour and climbing around, think Youtube/Ontheroof esque stuff but not that insanely high

Drink lots of water every day

    Try to eat healthy

    ???

    Plenty of profit

I really should take the time to learn fitness stuff :|

    Great @jackophant, kudos to you!

I must sort myself out again, I keep eating disorderly, weird hours, bad shit that I know and keep saying "last time"... I just ate half 540g cheesecake while watching a movie.

Anyway, not eating late is one of the best things. For the "not being full", well, depends how quickly you are eating... you are actually supposed to stop before feeling full, food takes approximately 2 minutes (from what I remember from school) to get to stomach, so if you pause and eat slowly, munching a lot, you will eat less. Eating fast is in fact one of the tricks that "man vs food" people do.

    Go Jack go!

I recently entered into a challenge with my wife's family. 50$ a person (about 6 of us) whoever loses the most percentage gets to keep all of the money.

Started out at 180ish , I'm down about 6 or so pounds atm. I'll prob start working out soon ish.

I followed a no carb diet for the last couple of weeks and lost 5kg, though to be fair losing weight is not something I need to be doing, my problem is putting the weight on. I can do it, but it all goes to the wrong places, hence the diet to try to trim a bit of that fat away. Anyway, been super lazy with the gym since we lost our membership in the Crytek fiasco last summer..we got a membership to a new gym with Deep Silver but it's not as good as the Virgin Active one we were going to, so I haven't been going. Motivation to actually go after a long day at work is my problem, so to solve that I've been gathering the pieces for my own home gym. I now have dumbells, a bench, an exercise bike, pull-up bar, ab roller, swiss ball and ground mat. Might get some kettlebells too. That should be all I need to try to add some muscle and I will use it all a lot more often as it's at home. Will also be focusing a lot on bodyweight exercises to try to shift fat. Am off the no carb diet now, onto a low carb one (piece of brown toast, one banana and one sweet potato every day) in amongst a lot of meat, veg and eggs for protein. No sweets and biscuits or anything like that but then I haven't been eating that kind of stuff for years, save for the odd occasion. Can't say I've noticed a drastic increase in my energy levels since I reintroduced the carbs, but then I feel like I've been tired for 3 months since I gave up coffee :)

I am a sweet tooth. I know I can cut it, when I did my big trim down (-10kg) years ago I stayed away from chocolate and biscuits for 1 full year... maybe that's the problem: I know I can do it so... I'm not? If it makes sense.

Thanks, that's a lot of interesting information! :)

im not doing nor I ever did a no carbs diet, I did cut biscuits at the time because I could eat 750gr packet in 2 max 3 days! I was still eating reasonable portions of pasta (never been a fan actually - yeah, despite being Italian) or rice, potatoes, the weekly pizza… what I did was reducing bread, having none or close to none in the evening.

My problem is sugar and fats, I have eaten a bowl of trifle in an evening sometimes… and I mean stuff that 6 people would eat at least. Problem is I live where I work, I don't like seeing so much food wasted so I do stupid things like eating 3 portions of chicken pie, etc. (Also was going to the gym on top of all the work we do so I basically kept eating what was enough now that I'm not doing that much activity)

@blackdog ah, the dreaded sweet tooth! I too am familiar with this curse... I envy people who feel sick when eating too many sweet things, and I just sit there and demolish a selection of whatever it is like a monster :(

blackdog Fat at is actually something you want to be eating and your body needs, you just need to be eating the right kinds (nuts, eggs, coconut oil etc). Basically a good rule of thumb is to avoid anything processed and eat natural instead. So a block of cheese is ok, but a cheese string is not....fresh meat is good, but packet ham is not, etc. Anything that looks like it was made in a factory, just avoid it. And get rid of any of the sugary stuff too like cakes, trifles, biscuits etc, natural sugar in things like bananas are ok though.

You can also pick foods that help with controlling hunger levels, to reduce the amount you'll want to pick up the sweet stuff. Eggs are good for this, I have them in the morning (4 or 5, half with yolk half without) with a slice of brown toast and some spinach - this keeps me feeling full enough until lunchtime. Vegetables can also help with this as they contain fibre, so pack a lot of greens into your lunch along with some protein. Then have some meat, more veg and some carbs in the evening and you'll be sorted. If you feel like snacking at any time, have a bag of nuts handy, I just snack on almonds and pistachios all day

Carb wise I've learnt that again processed stuff is bad, and that normally includes pasta. Brown rice is ok but best to not get the pre-cooked stuff. Sweet potatoes are better than the normal ones. Sauces normally contain sugars so avoid those, if I want to make a chicken and veg dish a bit more interesting I just mix it with tinned, pulped tomatoes and cook the chicken with some herbs and spices.

I'm definitely no expert on this by the way, but pretty sure the above is accurate :)

Was away over the last week and used the hotel gym and pool almost everyday. First time I've not ached after going which I can only associate to staying on it. On the Saturday cycled and walked for a combined 2.5 hours and then still went to the gym and for a swim after :D

Also had first proper workout session with personal trainer last night. Pushed myself to muscle failure on bicep curls, tricep extensions, squats, and face pulls. Had to do my squats with a 20kg kettle bell as the squat rack was quite narrow and i couldn't comfortably get my arms behind me to hold the bar :(

I also had to skip the lunges due to what I could only describe as shin splints, which I've suffered with for a while now.

Day after I feel good! really good :)
