Yeah! chromatic aberration is starting to annoy me. And the JJ Abrams flares...

as other said, the sound in this trailer got me.... very.

The env reminds Doom, but cooler.

It looks good. I'm not sure i like the deliberately rough around the edges futuristic art design. It's a bit odd how everything feels simulatenously hyper-futuristic and 8-bit at the same time. it's not convincing for me atm, and the head bobbing was driving me nuts.

Maybe I'll come around though, definitely looks like a project worth supporting

Yeah the design choices feel rather weird. Retro future works well when the environments are relatable, but when you have hyper-futuristic environments with a few retro props here and there it feels very out of place and forced.

Lighting looks awesome though, definitely a game to check out when it's out

I just think the overall level of execution and polish is a bit lacking and feels a bit more like a sketch than a serious approach. That sounds pretty harsh but I guess it's just my opinion. I also think the fonts are just wonky looking.

Basically I don't think the overall result here is actually that aesthetic, it's just atmospheric. Even if you're going for a corny 70's/80's vibe I still think it should be inherently nice to look at (blood dragon). A lot of this stuff, if you focus on it for more than three seconds, it starts to look pretty... lame. I think it would fall at the feet of the art director more or less, but again I sound like I fuckign hate what I see, I don't at all. It's good but not great

isn't that just semantics fmpone? more so because once you start playing it you probably won't notice it as much as in the trailer...

    Semantics? I don't think so

I mean it kind of throws a lot of art at you and its a sort of unique look so that it's sort of effective, but unique doesn't really equal aesthetic. I'm not all that in love with what I see, tbh. They've got their own thing going on, but the execution is pretty lacking in a lot of spots. Would I notice it when I'm walking around, yeah, I think I would, I noticed it in the trailer after all.

Aesthetics is obviously subjective, I dunno, to me the art is just a bit tacky looking and not in a way that you can excuse simply because it's borrowing a 70s or 80s style. Again, just my take on it. It doesn't help that the gameplay seemed a bit stiff as well. But I'm guessing I'm in the minority on this one.

Anyway they've got people talking and so good for them, it's at least trying to do something a bit different

You also have to put things in perspective, it's a team of 3 people. Of course, that shouldn't impact the art style *so* much but when it comes to execution, you can't expect the same quality you'd find in a AAA...

I for one am really looking forward to it both because there are very few fps (or games in general) in that setting but mostly because they'll favour exploration and survival to plain (boring) action. That's an angle that I've been missing a lot in Dead Space for example...

if action is boring it's done wrong...

but fmpone i don't really get you. are you saying that you won't look past this once you would start playing, or? i didn't pay that much attention to the details, but it didn't strike me as an environment that would be kitschy or whatever

Not to make six posts saying the same thing but apparently I was unclear, honestly I just don't like the way it looks. Half of the materials like the wooden message boards, every single screen and font, the overuse of that chromatic effect, the generic terminals. I like very little about it visually despite it being on the cusp of looking good in a few spots. IMO

True, they should probably ditch the sci-fi and set it in the middle east. Chuck in a few Terrorists, and bob's yer uncle.

I have no problem with the sci-fi. I love sci-fi. They could make a better looking sci-fi setting set exactly where they want it, and I listed a bunch of examples of how, in my opinion, they could do it. You ginger troll

I agree with what FMPONE said pretty much. I'm not sure they'll pull it off but I surely hope so! It just seems to lack a little bit of everything, perhaps they can fix it in polish... For some reason Amnesia looked way more soild, can't put my finger on it... It seems like a lower quality version of what it could be, somehow. Perhaps I've been too spoiled.

If they can't pull it off then just scope down or something, not being AAA shouldn't be an excuse. Will keep an eye on it.

I don't see a lot relating to those games. Looks closer to something like Dear Esther or Amnesia/Black Plague (without puzzles)? Like a more atmospheric walk around sort of thing. Where the mechanics at?
