Alright, finished the game last night! :D

What a fantastic game, things really pick up after Act2 in every regard, gameplay gets more interesting and mixed, the story really hooks you, you start to feel attached to the characters which makes it really hard if not impossible to put this game down.

If you're gonna give this a try, know that this game feels more like reading a novel than playing an action game. So, careful with your expectations, I kind of wish I knew this going in and I would apreciate the first few hours of the game even more. It's kind of hard to explain, but let's just say the story is the main pillar of the game. You're going to be watching a lot of cuscenes, not including the live action show and you're going to be reading a lot of optional e-mails and pickups you find in the maps. (These are optional, but I'm very glad I read them all, this game has some seriously good writing, Sam Lake is a fantastic writer)

Also, the game got patched a few days ago and the PC version performs much better thankfully.

I also like that this is one contained story, they're not going to do DLC for this. It's one package, and everything is there from beginning to end, I also apreciate that the ending is very satisfying and fulfilling a-la Max Payne and not like Alan Wake that ends in a needless cliff hanger. Speaking of Max Payne, (minor spoilers ahead)

Spoiler Quantum Break in many ways feels like an homage to Max Payne, in the way it plays, the way it tells it's story, the way you feel attached to the characters, even the pacing of the game and it's locations. You play in the docks, car park garages, alleys, and in the final level you need to make it up a gigantic building owned by a evil corporation! :D)

If you play this, try and pay attention to the details. Remember this is a game about time traveling so some things might turn out to be something else. :D Overall, great game! Can't wait to see what Remedy does next, they're masterful storytellers.

Spencer said in an interview a while back that they are going to bring more of their games to Steam. He said that Steam is a powerhouse with a big audience so it would be wise to use that. At the same time, they are going to compete against Steam with their Windows Store. So not everything will be ported to Steam, depends on the game I guess. Anyway, I'm looking forward to buying it on Steam! Let's hope they eventually decide to port Gears as well. I wouldn't mind replaying the Ultimate version of the first one.

It's really retarded to not release a game on steam. I mean talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

I missed that, but what Spencer said sounds like they are gonna port games as soon as they have exhausted the player base on their first platforms. In that optic, Gears could be a long wait as they are pushing the competitive again. I might be wrong, after all they can make the MP work all together anyway. Really wish they will port it, although I own GoW PC and was never able to complete it because of how shit GFWL was (crashes and lost saves)… I tried to call out Major Nelson on Twitter but of course he never replied.

Just read that Remedy on Twitter announced that the Windows Store DX12 version won't be updated any longer with the Steam release ?

Received today the PC retail collector's edition. Fine piece of box they made :) behind the scenes book is 100+ pages! A lot of information, there's even a section on cut content.

DVDs look slightly bent, hopes won't be a problem installing. Funnily enough, will be the first retail game I activate on steam

Beginning installation... I waited today that I have the rest of the day off, as it's quite discouraging having to install a game over friggin 5 DVDs.

    Edit: says 1h 40m :o

Great looking game, played the first act and started the second.

I feel the pacing is a little off, as: there's a lot of reading to be done to find all the details about the story that keep you from playing. As well when I was "ready" for the TV episode, it didn't come.

And I'm not completely happy with the gameplay: time powers look insane, are great in concept... but I'm not finding as rewarding or easy to use. I dunno if it's because on PC the gamepad doesn't feel flawless (I'll try adjusting aim speeds but just doesn't feel as accurate as other games) but I'm finding shooting less satisfying than Alan Wake. So much so I even went back to basic pistol after trying to use the more powerful because the latter has an insane kick that is uncontrollable, and doesn't do 1-shot-1-kill either. But maybe the most annoying part is the cover system: you cannot crouch manually and the character sticks to walls automatically, where it wants. There are several doorways where you'd want to stick to pop shots from cover, where you just can't - and because the camera is closer than your average shooter, you can't properly see without exposing yourself.

The other biggest disappointment is probably that you can't melee! You rush someone with the "blink" power* and you find yourself shooting in each others mouth. Guess at this point that it will be a makes-no-sense unlockable "skill", which it makes it even more silly, since they made sure the character has a background for his weapons training (picked it up in Cambodia or something!!111) but can't punch a douche standing in front of him, despite the character has an history of trouble making.

*To be noted that I haven't been able to confuse the AI using the blink power, and that the implementation could have been much better implemented. First it has a fixed distance, that means that unless you are going pillar to pillar, very often you don't blink into another cover. You cannot blink over obstacles, or down the stairs, so you get discovered if you were trying to stealth around or start a surprise attack.

At least though, seems to run fine at Ultra settings on my 970m, I only disabled the anti-aliasing that notably causes artifacts like weird halos around objects (was pointed out in a Digital Foundry review).

Ah, you beat me to it. Was going to open a new topic but feel asleep on the sofa last night.

Yeah should be a new game, they were talking of having something in the pipeline when QB was coming out.

I must say in really disappointed with Quantum, I'm thinking of writing a review when I finish the game. I played quite much at the start then want really motivated to pick it back up. In two word, the game is: too prolix.

But still I'm always interested in remedy games, there's always something to like

As far as I know Remedy has at least two games in the works. One of them is a mystery and the other one is Crossfire 2 SP campaign. I'm more interested in the former, but I'm also curious how a FPS game by Remedy looks like.

Finally managed to finish this thing!

The final boss felt very unfair. Is not like difficult per-se as a challenge, you just get stuck on walls and shit and you get bombed by this weird time bombs(?)

Anyway really disappointed with this. You spend more time reading than shooting, so many emails and shit everywhere (and I still managed to miss some). There are so many dead moments... you would have thought they learned from Alan Wake but I think this is much worse at telling a story that would otherwise be good/interesting.

Combat is somewhat fun, but I'd say more frustrating. I guess some problem is because of performance with my computer which is not always flawless, but the time powers are a bit trouble like mentioned above... I dunno, I would expect that when zipping through the environment the character would vault over obstacles maybe. I would expect more auto-aim to assist to freeze people in bubbles. I dunno, to control this person with such amazing powers, I don't feel very empowered. For this Max Payne was waaay better.

    I don't give this more than a 6/10

They have some sort of it already, when you pull up to shoot it normally aims at an enemy, but sometimes goes in weird places like an explosive barrel next to you instead on the enemy over there, same as well in close-up.

Bottom line is they have done a poor job to make you feel a badass

I actually really enjoyed the game; hated it at first, felt really sluggish and shitty and weird pacing and so on, then I got super pissed off at the "TV Show" like why am I watching a low budget 24 and why is it going on for so long. However I found myself going back to it constantly, super addictive, I wanted to see where the story went, how they would wrap it all up, I got into the combat, the exploring and the reading, using the powers and coming across different enemies, the locations and time jumps were awesome.

By the time it ended (fuck the final boss, if you make it hard don't make me sit through dialogue before I get another chance, dickheads), I was pretty bummed out, because you could see this would never get a sequel.

I would honestly recommend this to anyone who hasn't played it yet, just keep an open mind and don't expect an action shooter but more of a story with the microsoft-required shooting elements.

    Like, go buy it now.
