I don't remember, was it said loud and clear they were not allowing self-publishing?

Good thing they'll continue with the "every console is a devkit" strategy they launched with Xbox.

It all sound logic, despite the fact that Julie-Larson Green doesn't cover the same position of Cerny, doesn't she?

The people who came up on Sony's stage during E3 don't look very different from Ms. Green to me, except that they run an entertainment company since many years.

If we compare these top execs to the GM role in a major league's team, Sony's managers did what a good manager should do: find the right coach and give him space to work, please him with what he needs. Coming from the loosing position, i guess it wasn't too difficult of a choice for them.

I'd say Mattrick was much more of a "leader", compared to his peer Jack Tretton, this might have been the fundamental problem for the One.

So if my comparison holds, there's not yet the basis to rule out a good management from Julie-Larson, maybe she'll give the Xbox Team the space they need to turn the ship around.

I think the problem in Microsoft is at an higher floor...

I will literally die laughing if they do another u-turn and go back to even more brutal policies than before.

If they cut the price like that, Kinect would probably become an accessory i guess.

How would you feel for a $429 price tag with Kinect? (I think more than that wouldn't be justifiable for something people actually (think) don't want).

Those prices are too much in my opinion, both for PS4 and Xbox. The main reason why I don't have a PS3 is that the retail price, even for the slim versions etc is still too high to pay upfront for something you also need to buy games for anyways. If I have to spend 500 euros for a console + a game or two, I'll buy myself a laptop or PC or new TV or whatever instead. Consoles are a device I connect to already expensive appliances, if the console itself costs more than the sum of all of those appliances, something is wrong IMO. That's why I only own the Wii and Xbox 360, the pricing is decent on those.

The prices seem reasonable to me. I've had top-end PCs but always gotten much better value out of my consoles because they simply have more great games. The amount of play that I've gotten out of my PS3 alone is astonishing, easily worth the few hundred quid it cost.

It's a bit like phones. Sure you can go buy a Windows Phone which provides more features for less money, but how useful is it when you can only get like a third of the best apps available on iPhone and Android?

Of course not everyone is that into console games and the PC has more games they're interested in. For me, my main gaming joys of the past generation have been those games that were exclusive to or best on consoles.

I think as a starting price, that of the PS4 is about right. It would be nice if they gave you something more with it, like "premium" access to online services for at least 3 months. That would get you addicted easily, and tbh it doesn't cost them much.

I'm surprised about the current console price; even during sales, they do not compare to how much I paid the X360 (180€ thanks to the €-£ conversion on Amazon), and I have it since'07-'08 I think.

Anyways, I don't think it's worth to buy any console at D1, just for the simple reason of problems with first models. Then they are going to cut the price in one year time. Lineups are also usually pretty weak, for what i've seen until now, I don't see a reason to buy new even if I had the money... there are so many great games that came out this last year, and more are coming in 2014 that I haven't played.

Well, I guess we're pretty different about those matters: I still have an old Nokia model from 10 years ago. I enjoy consoles, don't get me wrong, just not enough to justify putting 400 euros in one, just as with my phone. If games themselves were better priced I might be tempted, but 60-70 euros on top for a new release + price of the console = thanks but thanks, that's too expensive for something I'm not even certain I'll enjoy.

Agreed, i was thinking during the press-events that they should give more stuff with the console. Not bundles as they are now, bundles like "for the same price you get also this shit if you order in advance".

Current sale model is broken imo, the concept that "you have to reserve your copy/unit" for the luxory to "being the first"... at this point gamers are doing more of a favour to companies than the other way around.

Btw, I bought the X360 at the time thinking "i'll buy only used, they are so cheap on Amazon", then I noticed that [a]they were in shitty conditions, used is not fair to my peers (even if i'm not technically a developer) [c]prices get low very quickly, I only buy when price is <25€, and more likely in the 8-15€ range.

I've had two used game duds recently which has completely put me off them altogether now. God damn owners need to look after their shit.

I promised myself not to ever buy used games, I rather wait for a steam deal or wait a couple months and buy it new on amazon since game prices drop on a weekly basis there. It annoys me to no end devs an publishers don't see a dime out of used games. (I know used games have a huge positive side to them as well, but that's a whole different topic)

Also I'm with Thrik on this one. Obviously we all have our priorities in life and what we do with our money but 400$ for a PS4 is a bargain considering the value I'm gonna get from it for the next 5 to 10 years.

You're basically getting a current gen PC performance wise for 1/3 of the price it would cost you, a PC you will never need to upgrade because the latest games wont run on there, etc. Also, PSN+ giving you 4 or 5 free games per month I barely buy games now unless it's a AAA release I am REALLY looking forward like Last of us, infinite, GTA5, etc.

Another thing, call me crazy but I am a firm believer of the "vote with your wallet" mentality, I want more than anything in my life for the next gen to triumph on top of the previous one and getting a next-gen console right away will count as a vote towards it. (Same with getting a game you're really looking forward to in it's day 1)

Isn't that special power button the same as the original Playstation 3 power button but with a light behind it?

The internal power supply for the PS4 is a big win in practicality.

What was wrong with it? I never had a problem with it, just put your finger on it and it turns on, why "hate"? Oo

I much prefered and miss the original fat ps3 to the two models released after that, specially this last one with the retractable tray. (the one I own here in the US since I had to sell my EU fat ps3 )

Say what you will about the Xbox One, this is how unboxing videos should be. Edited, fast and concise. I realize this if directly from the Microsoft PA team but I hate unboxings where the host is also the camera guy and take 20 minutes to show ever label detail on the box. It's even worse when they put the camera on their lap and try to hold the box in front of them to open it. GET A TRIPOD!

The console itself looks nice. I'm interested in the new controller as I love my 360 pad. That said everything else is pretty standard.
