Dux, hurry up and review this game already. I'm eagerly anticipating your review!!

Dunno if I can bring myself to do it. I'd be going into it with a negative mindset to begin with.

Urgh this guy spoils more of the game that even necessary... that's not good reviewing style. TotalBiscuit's was much better.

Whether it's related to the reception of the game or the usual end-of-project-fuck-off kinda of thing http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/03/04/oh-…eidos-montreal/

Hope nobody here got affected :/

Fingers crossed nobody here got affected. It's quite common to ramp up at the end of production and then let people go. Were these people on temporary contracts or not? If they were though, I'm sure it wouldn't have made the news.. Hmmm. Sorry to hear it! It's never nice.

Thief developer Eidos Montreal laid off 27 employees today. Here's the full statement from their parent company, Square Enix:P

Yes it is true we've let 27 people go today, unfortunately it's something that every major studio has to do sometimes in order to ensure you have the right set up for current and future projects. It's never a nice thing to do but we are genuinely trying to offer as much support as much as we can. We're trying to re-locate as many people as possible into other roles here or at our other studios and we've been in touch several studios in Montreal to arrange a career day for those affected by this. We're very thankful for all their hard work and we sincerely wish them well.

What the fuck man... this shit needs to stop or this industry will implode.

Sucks, but these days stuff like this sadly doesn't surprise anymore

The international element makes it even worse with the games industry. At least in most other sectors, you've potentially got hundreds more jobs in the same region. It seems that a lot of people can and do end up moving their whole lives to countries to work there, only to be let go... it's so bad. Maybe not so much when you're young, but totally impossible when you're a bit older and have a family.

I saw that yesterday. Now as I said on the twitterz, even if I disliked the game, witnessing layoffs like that still makes me mad. Good to know your job is safe.

Thief is at 50% on Steam and it was apparently already at a reduced price so it's only €15... WTF? Game came out only a couple of months ago Bought it obviously.

Did Thief 4 get patches / post release support? Because I would like to play it, but I'm reluctant due to all the technical stuff I heard when it came out.

I just got the game on Steam at something like 15 bucks. I'm sorry guys, but even then it's not worth my time. I know you guys worked really hard to ship this, and I am more than well aware of the rocky dev history on the title, 6 years in the making. It would have passed as an ok game with a few good ideas back before Deus Ex and Dishonored, but this feels like an alpha build. Everywhere I look, there's the start of a good idea that never got pushed further, and was just left at a "look, I can do it too" level. So much potential with that franchise too, if only....

    How to fix it:

    - Revamp stealing mechanic to actually make it meaningful (consequence for each item stolen, actual economy to each item)

    - Remap controls and allow throwing of items/shooting while peeking

    - Scrap Splinter Cell like shadow/light stealth mechanic, implement actual visibility cones a la Dishonored

    - Huge task, turn it open world. The best recipe to be found for a new Thief game is on an Assassin's Creed 2 scale (not more)

You're supposed to play games you buy on Steam? Aw shit... I've been doing it wrong all along!

But seriously, lots of work and GF now so I barely have time anymore which is good and bad I guess So not sure I'll be able to play it soon :/
