I'm so looking forward to stop pretending to play Thief in Skyrim!

Edit: I'm not gonna whine about QTE and that kind of stuff just yet, I just want to look at those pretty shadows and gems. Whine can come after I started playing it, cause damn it looks pretty!

Whether it's not a "worthy successor" or not for the Thief series it's about stealing things, and as long as there is any degree of challenged or illusion of a challange I will play the game and enjoy stealing stuff - just as I enjoyed stealing paintings in Dishonored and hopefully better.

    Edit 2:

Not sure if anyone read this but you should, it's a hand-on summary, I'll stay passive in this matter, wait and see! http://www.pcgamer.com/2013/10/09/thi…wer-cosh-ninja/

don't know why you are bitching about it !
it looks prettttttyyyy kul IMO, i love the monochromatic look it fits the Thief feel, and as the trailer asid at the beggining time hase changed and the city has changed, we need to move on !

I'm just afraid it's gonna turn into an assassination fest where you can go face up with guards without a second thought - just like in Dishonored. But meeeh, maybe it's just me being pessimistic.

True Thief or not, I think this looks incredible.

The game looks great, I've never played Thief so I don't really care about its authenticity (although I understand why drastic changes would be annoying in the same way as if Half-Life 3 were like Heavy Rain). I do wish the palette were more varied, everything in the trailer seemed to be exactly the same. Even orange-fests like Deus Ex had gloriously beautiful outdoor areas though so hopefully there's some of that.

As someone who loved Dishonored I just can't help but compare everything to it, though — it looks really similar! Even right down to the enemies being the '(City) Watch', and I was constantly being reminded of aesthetically similar places in Dishonored. I'm sure Dishonored got most of its stuff from Thief in the first place but it's cruelly ironic that the developers are going to have to work super-hard to differentiate it.

Anyway, I love me some stealth-em-up so I'll be getting this.

I agree with you, no matter if you're a complete fanboy or not this game's visuals are truely incredible. Due to this I too will probably pick up this game no matter how the gameplay reveals to be. But please let it be different and please don't make a hero of the Thief, he is a burgler who likes shinies and I want it to stay that way!

I mean honestly the visuals don't really matter to me, what I saw of gameplay looked pretty amazing to me. But still like the small mist cloud when you steal from someone is pretty cool.

In the meantime there's the Dark Mod, now standalone if you need your oldschool and faithful Thief fix.

Man I love stealth, but I think that's one step too far. I find that boring as hell.

fov mimimi. boring mimimi. God damn console kids.

On a serious note. It was always what made Thief Thief that most direct encounters with enemies would end with ones dead. If it end up like Dishonored where you can basicly play it as fps then it's not Thief anymore imo.

I actually thought it was a bit too much with the FOV, which is why I mentioned it. It kind of removes something from the experience when your eyes are basically the same as a chameleon's.

Well that is stealth how it should be done. TDM is one of the best mods ever made because while it is very faithful to Thief in every aspect, it actually improves on it by making it much more complex and much harder. You'll need a lot more patience and planning if you want to KO a single guard, for instance, compared to the original games. Running behind them to club them just doesn't work anymore because the guards have heightened senses and can definitely hear you running.

I saw this on neogaf. I haven't really payed too much attention to the new Thief game yet but was looking forward to it being a huge fan of the old games, especially 1+2. But reading this really kills all interest that i have for the game.

Also saw this interview posted which makes the guys sound completely detached from what made the franchise great:

We’ve seen players who don’t even bother to read anything they find. We have to make sure the game is fun for them, too. So, it’s a big challenge to add enough layers of exposition to not penalize anyone who wants to skip over that kind of stuff.

This quote pretty much sums up what's wrong with not just with Thief but big games as a whole these days. What i wonder is, is it really what players want? Or did the gaming industry actualy condition players to play this way? It all started around COD 2 didn't it? I can't imagine that players these days are just born so differently then the generation before.

Yeah, this is really old news. Most of the die-hard fans hate this game's guts.

Well, those die-hard fans are the minority and a lot of the times the ones that pirate the games that you make. That's the painful truth and why we don't have nice things anymore

This is the biggest generalisation I've ever seen.
