Seriously, Dark Souls is great but is not a model of optimized game . See how Blighttown run at 15 fps on PS3.

So I'm not surprised if it's really the collision model.

Could very well be the collision model as the japs are indeed on crack.

there aren't that many physicalised entities or enemies at once in the game. It can afford more easily than other games to have more complex hitcheck, especially when so often life and death in that game rely on accurate hitcheck.

You mean the 100% accurate collision that you just complained about? Yeah I guess they could make it 110% accurate...

    >accurate collision

    >good collision

Well considering that's completely subjective depending on the need. Accurate collision can equal good collision if that is what you require, which is the case in Darksouls. It pretty evident you haven't actually played the game though Rick, so I leave it at that.

heee, I don't know if calling this 100% accurate collision is the right thing to do..; Have you ever played with a bow ? You can easily make arrow floating in the air.

Also I don't think making a collisionevery broken bricks is usefull for the gameplay of this game, ot I don't understand why... And I want to walk on this wood plank even if my equipment weight is more than 80 !!! >:[

I'm actually in Anor Londo and for me Dark Souls is clearly an unfinished game in term of visual with a lot of bad vertex lighting floors and stuffs, strange post processing, ugly texture repetition, flat trees froms 1998 and ugly shader sometimes. Over that the chara and animation are really good so env artist certainly ran out of time or were eaten by the streaming process of the game. Collision are just a part of this env art work.

Pretty funny to see how some zones just pass right through other zones (daughter of chaos bonfire going through tomb of giants). Not relevant though since those are never loaded at the same time. In any case, I would take lower visual fidelity if it meant another world that was this fun to explore any day.. well maybe if it ran at closer to 30 FPS and fixed the bugs where standing on a slope 1 degree too steep meant falling to your death . I remember poking around in other games like CoD4 where the collision is completely shut off for anything not in the gameplay space, even if that was just on the other side of a barbed wire fence.
