I don't really like literal remakes, I find them a waste of time. A reimagining on the other hand can be pretty cool! If you're not gonna change/improve anything, why make it at all! (Well ok the graphics have improved...)
Somewhere Gearbox is shitting their pants

So because it's a copy of something it's fine and you don't consider that mediocre level design anymore? I fail to see the logic there

Yes I consider it fine. What's the problem? Everything needs to be re-imagined these days? What's wrong with taking something from 1999 and wrapping it in cry engine.
Notthhhiiiinnnnnngg you cerrrrrrazzzzzy foreigner.

dux, i think he was referring to it being crappy back then. i don't have an opinion about this because i'm boring and grey and a conformist

I personally enjoyed monolith's AVP2 far more than the first one...

I cant remember playing avp1, but I remember being scared shitless by avp2.
I mean the first part is just pure atmosphere, not aliens or anything. Just the sounds... I still remember finally getting out of the base where I have been freaking out because of that ping sound from my gun and then hearing that infernal predator scream. *shudders*
-
Didn't avp1 have like a horde mode where aliens just spawn forever and you just had to last for as long as you could. I'm pretty sure I recall doing this at 350ms via mplayer.
-
Yeah it did and it was fucking amazing. One of the maps was where you had crash landed in one of the escape pods and you had to run through a load of outdoor canyans to read an isolated bunker with aliens literally coming out of the walls.
ermahgerd it was so good.
And I still think it looks good.

yep that's the level I remember. I didn't play it much because good god mplayer was balls but i remember it being terrifying and awesome.

Never finished the first one because it was very difficult and you couldn't save anytime you wanted. Although they did add that later through a patch. But yes, the game was scary. The second one however, was even scarier imo. The tension in the marine campaign was unbelievable. I remember finding the smartgun, walking through a corridor already nervous and the gun suddenly locks on something running from right to left. Of course you couldn't see it, because it was a cloaked predator. That's just one of many moments. Probably one of the scariest games I've played.
-
Yeah I do agree AVP1 still looks good, and I personally found it a lot scarier than AVP2, but the latter was a pretty scary game as well. The first one just felt so cold and rough, you were thrown in the shithole and it was perfect in that regard.
-
If that horde mode was avp1, then that was the game I played. So much fun were had.
I loved the part where you morphed into an alien if you got killed and then had to fight your former team mates.
