I can't play standing with the Rift. Makes my legs shaky.
I've never tried these kind of demoes but I must say I find the prospects of current gen movement controls + VR incredibly clunky and unappealing. VR displays are definitely getting somewhere, but trying to mix motion controls into it just subtracts imho, as you are fully immersed visually but hamstrung by wonky movement.
Traditional control schemes and VR; sign me up.

Haven't tried any of the motion tracing controllers either (hydra/leapmotion that are supposed to have decent accuracy) but playing with a controller can be quite distracting, because you would expect a one to one translation of your movements. Pretty much the first think people try to do when they put and hmd on is to reach out and touch stuff and it is really sad when you get no feedback at all. Haptic feedback is probably going to remain an issue for a while, but a controller or mouse and keyboard don't tend to work that great if it is not a flight sim or something of that vain.
Next prototype Crecent bay:

lol

Tried the oculus yesterday for the first time, I have to say it was a bit of a downer, the resolution is clearly inferior to any display.
All the other considerations about functionality depend on the game, which in my case was not a game to port over (an fps platformer) – I started feeling sick after 5 minutes.

I would love to make games where you have to throw up

The hype is real~

Cool, but man they have the (obvious) problem of making VR seem really hot and really selling it when you're watching something like this in 2D. I know the something like the EVE Valkyrie demo is probably absolutely incredible in VR, but it just falls a bit flat in a presentation like this.
Anyway, I'm ready for dis shit. Probably gonna end up being an "early" adopter and get 1st gen one, just to fuck around with it in UE

did they say anything about the specs?

Yea this is going to completely rely on word-of-mouth and trying it out yourself in a store or at your friend's place. In the case you mentioned, personally, I have a bigger problem getting excited about VR in games that are not first-person.

Exactly. Two of the three titles they showed off were third person, unless there's some clever twist on it them I'd say that's not exactly the best way to sell and communicate the best sides of VR early on, but maybe it's an antiquated point of view that VR has to be in first person, I donno.
-
About the third person thing, the couch knight demo from Epic still has some weird charm that few others (fps type games) have managed to replicate for me and that definitely has something to do with the perspective.
-
I wonder how you will not get motion sickness from 3rd person VR, very interesting.
Was Palmer on something during the presentation?
