Oh shit.

Some Twitter reactions to the footage:
QuoteDemo of "Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes", started w cutscene (all realtime), went into gameplay, open world, night, raining, base. AMAZING
QuoteSnake crawled @ avoiding searchlights, killed guard, rode jeep, called in heli for evac. Sounds like MG, but the scale & atmosphere... Wow.

I kind of suspect it won't be literally open world though, more that the engine can now handle extremely expansive areas. I just don't see Kojima giving up his scripting control by letting you craft your own course. That's a good thing though, MGS3 and MGS4 already took the series quite far in that direction by letting you take multiple routes (skipping entire areas in favour of others) and having pretty damn big sandbox areas.

What?! Another MGS game?! Hell yeah!
Is this another half-assed PSP game? I want another AAA MGS for my PS3.
Judging from Snakes outfit and look of the tech, this is could be set in the 80's when he created his own army or even after (Therefor a straight sequel to MGS3's events, which is what Peace Walked is, but tbh I hated that game)
-
From what's been said so far, then it seems that it wont even be on PS3. PC and next gen consoles~~
-
MGS1 story is set in 2005, I would love to play a MGS game where you play in the 90's, when Snake fights his first war in the Gulf and then proceeds to kill Big Boss in Zanzibar, and fights Frank Jagger (Gray Fox, the ninja from MGS1) before he's turned into that exoskeleton suit, they were actually friends but fighting in different sides.
In fact, if you think for a minute, "Ground Zeroes" probably means what it means, where it all began, Big Bosse's clones. This could probably be the very early story of Snake when he was young (and most likely the other clones, liquid and solidus)
Oh my god... the excitement!!!! I'm genuinely stoked and excited about this, this is my favourite franchise ever!

HP everything you just said pretty much made me start jizzing.
-
Can't avoid being exited about this !!! Still is it me or the titles of the coming metal gears sound a bit ironic
? I mean, metal gear : revengeance or ground zeroes ? -
yeah the titles are terribly hilarious

Very exciting, looks much more like 2/3

So we play again as Big Boss, and it's after Sneak Eater, and before MGS 1/2/4
and this is looking just WOW
-
Ossumm!~~
-
So i need to play peace walker to get the story straight
-
Not watched the trailer yet but I hope they don't force Peace Walker on us to get the plot. Portable Ops was set in the MGS3 era too but it was all pretty non-essential stuff as I understand it.
-
looks really cool although wet/night time is much easier to make than realistic sunny daytime.
a big change of pace in the gameplay department would be greatly welcome ... i guess i gotta play peacewalker for story now...

extended trailer shows a lot more gameplay and now I am impressed.
-
Oh god, just watched the trailer. Oh god.

I definitely feel like I've missed something having not played Peace Walker, and I suspect a lot of people never will. So hopefully there's some kind of fill-in cutscene or something that explains the basics, although the gist I got was that prior to this game Big Boss and his boys eventually set up Outer Heaven and have a big-ass army and base(s) at their disposal. Presumably this game deals with how things go sour from there...? The fall of Big Boss? Totally want to see that.
No idea who the scarred dude and Paz are, though.
Ah well, I'm sure more will become clear as usual with MGS trailers. Looks fuckin' great, though. -
