fuck you i'll resort to racism so fast i'll lose my job
I posted a cat. There's the door rick.
Yep this is definitely not the same game, even the maps are going to be different.
INS 2 is basically what INS should have been originally if we had time and experience to give it the polish it needed. The code is being completely remade, art is being created, old art is being updgraded, the maps are being completely revamped, etc... Another thing to keep in mind is that we are using Beta 1.0 as the base for this and not the current version on Steam (2.0), which plays a bit different than Beta 1.0. So we are not just upgrading an existing mod and charging for it. Also, don't expect to see Beta 2.0 content in INS 2.
I believe that although it seems like it, the idea is not to compete with CoD and BF since those games play completely different than INS. Those differences are exactly what NWI needs to focus now in order to gather more attention to the game imo~
Anyway, I'm really happy to see how much progress has been made since I left the project, really looking forward to the final product!

But why use the ever ageing Source engine? You even admitted yourself that its a very lengthy and painful process. Will people really be willing to back a project that is going to have a longer build time than an identical project on another more modern and user friendly engine? It's common to see within the source modding community disappointment when a project moves to a more modern engine, simply because they are die-hard source engine fans, and are missing the bigger picture, that being that the project will be of likely higher quality, quicker development and have room for more advanced and ambitious features than what Source is capable of.
Look at Nuclear Dawn. Great game, really great. Yet a lot of users are claiming that in comparison to other games such as BF3, they get very bad performance. It looks great, but only when you consider the limitations of the engine. I recall one of the developers saying that they chose the source engine rather than UE3, and looked at the fact that 'Frontlines fuel of war' was a failed game. To me this suggests it failed purely because of the engine choice. I might be contradicting myself in some way saying this, but since when did an engine choice dictate the overall success of a game?
If you build a game from scratch then it's definitely faster to work with an engine that has a better workflow and tools.
However in the case of INS2 we used one of the old mod builds as a base. Same was true for ND. This saves a lot of time in such cases because you have something playable right from the start that you can iterate on and also a ton of assets already ready at hand that can be used as placeholders.
Source Engine also isn't that bad actualy for very small teams because you can still build a lot with bsp whereas in CE or UDK you have to model pretty much everything. For the last year i was the only env artist for the most part. Minos was another one for a couple months, some other guys making a couple props or textures here and there and only recently we got another full time env artist. This would have been a lot harder to stem on another engine given that we have more scenarios then just Iraq this time. (We have maps in Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia and Chechnya)
Somalia sounds cool, I guess it's Mogadishu and the Irene mission...? I wanna see your work on the Chechen conflict noaw!!!
Not sure if it has been told somewhere before, but:
How does the gameplay work in INS2? Will there be basically 5-cp maps like in INS before? Are there any "smaller" gamemodes, where the focus would basically be just KotH type of thing in a rather small maps?
So is the main selling point of INS2 going to be just realism? I don't see anything else that stands out.

Yes most maps are rather small with a central objective. The biggest map right now is Baghdad. If you remember it from INS1. It only goes from the mosque to the gas station now (with a couple new routes tho).
Just saw that the info on the website has been updated. Can take a look there too:
Just read on the forums there's a Libya campaign... how's that going to work?
I've got a few obscure links of photos from both wars in Chechnya, let me know if you're interested...

Great pictures, thanks for sharing. Some of those home made weapons are nuts, I like this one which is a Mosin Nagant with a hand crafted stock.

Nice refs! Love the homebrew weapons.
If anyone is interested Destructoid will show the game live in a bit (i think half an hour from now).
Recovered some of my galleries for Chechnya, unfortunately some of them are dead links so there isn't as much here as there once was...
