EA is now the antihero of the games industry: http://www.ea.com/news/eamaxis-sue-zyng ... fringement
EA sues Zynga for copyright infringement
-
-
Well, that's probably about it for Zynga now — their stock values have been free falling for some time now, so I doubt they have the energy or resources to seriously contest EA here. But it's very much deserved as the company seems to have a corporate culture of it being totally fine to rip anyone and everyone off.
-
Don't think many people will cry over Zynga, didn't do them selves many favors in most eyes.

lol have you seen the applestore??? the chinese games are SOOOO blatantly ripping off people its terrible! there was one game that had the icon from lego batman, but the game itself was 0% like it! Whats surprising to me is that Apple doesn't police this shit at all. It's really funny and sad the amount of fucked up shit that goes down in the industry.
For example... look at this -> itunes.apple.com/us/app/nexuiz/id504121436?mt=12 someone is selling the Classic Nexuiz (Open Source and Free) on iTunes. We cannot do anything to remove it. We even have friends in high positions at apple.
it's a sad state this industry has allowed this type of shit to happen. On the other hand, going after it will make 'software patents', etc., an every day reality.

Yikes, the simularities are unquestionable, right down to the character's clothing!

Scumbags. Absolute scumbags.

-
oh, come on. they changed the color of the grocery list on the fridge.
-
It's insane just how closely copied it is. Time to get the popcorn out for this one.

-
Its clear they though more about the PR side of things than the actual people. Facebook is also suppose to have posted quite large losses today(money not staff that is), having a hard time finding anything not iPad mini related though.

Zynga needs to die... now!
-
Yeah, the Boston offices closed down also.
-
Layoffs always suck - hope everyone lands save on their feet. That said, I don't feel very sorry for Zynga.
-
Yeah, I totally want to see Zynga burn to the ground but it's very sad that they don't even have the grace to do it in a way that respects their employees. I've been there myself (along with many MapCore members I imagine), given my marching orders and less than an hour to GTFO while half the company is laid off — you're pissed off as fuck, immediately worried about the future, and surrounded by equally depressed faces. Worst experience ever.

-
Horrible news. It's sad how often we're hearing stories like this and it just makes it worse when they don't even give people notice. Hope they all land on their feet ok!
-
In the UK you usually at least get paid for the equivalent of your notice period (by law), but they can put you on 'garden leave' where you're escorted off the premises more or less immediately and don't actually work that time. In some ways this is a blessing as it means you can search for a new job, but on the other hand nothing hits you harder than going from having a normal day at work to being out on your ass within the space of a few hours.
Since then I've learnt to never, ever rely on a job and let your skills/portfolio slide — you could need them at any moment. Even if you're not laid off, an awesome opportunity could pass you by but your portfolio isn't in a fit/updated state to show in time (happened to me).
No idea how it works in the US, though. Probably not so favourably.
