Yea I saw this trailer for it before Batman the other night. It looks like the trailers entire purpose was to say: "It has a good story, I swear!". I sincerely hope it turns out to be a good movie.

Cautiously optimistic about this. I always thought the first two Superman films were OK, and even the 2000s one was decent although the fact they tried to do a direct sequel after so many years while simultaneously pretending the shit #3 and #4 films didn't exist was both confusing and limiting. They should have gone the whole hog and rebooted it then, although I guess the whole idea of reboots and remakes was pretty sketchy at the time.

This, however, could be great. Zack Snyder is a great director IMO, and if he's working with Nolan I'm hoping the overall tone will be along the lines of the new Batman films. Superman is one of the more epic and rich comic book stories out there — certainly more so than Batman — the key is getting the tragic side of it right rather than focusing purely on the bombast and humour like the older ones did. The tone of the trailer suggests they're going in this direction, makes me happy.

BTW I think the Jor-El version is much more classy. Apparently both have been playing somewhat randomly in cinemas.

I figured it as his step father, but if thats supposed to be god, its just stupid and neither could fill the role.

Jor-El is Superman's real father, as performed by Marlon Brando (also with an English accent) in the original:

I say metaphorically because he's not really god, but there's a clear analogy there because he sends his son down from the heavens to be an inspiration and guide for the world. I think the accent suits the role very well personally and am really looking forward to Russell's performance in the role.

Yes. I guess it fits the trailer...or at least it fits what what I assume they were going for.

...but they didn't have anything original?

......but then again, for LotR movie fans, it does say "here is familiar music...got your attention!"
